Sachin Tendulkar to star in movie depicting his rise
Sachin Tendulkar will be starring in his acting debut in a feature film about his rise to be produced by 200 Not Out, a Mumbai-based production company. They got the rights to make the movie from World Sports Group (WSG). 200 Not Out have over 150 advertisements and short films to their credit.
The movie is already in the works and it is being directed by James Erskine, an award winning writer, director and producer. It is being shot in real time and is having contributions from numerous personalities around the world.
Some highlights of Erskine’s directing career include One Night in Turin, Battle of the Sexes which shows the story of the tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. Most recently he's directed Pantani: The Accidental Death of a Cyclist. He's also directed a cricket film, From the Ashes.
Ravi Bhagchandka, the founder of 200 Not Out, said, “We decided to work with Erskine after studying his many incredible films involving sports personalities. This will be the first time that he will be working in this part of the world. We will work with the best in the business for the film to be a fitting tribute to the unparalleled achievements of Sachin Tendulkar.” He added that the movie will feature "never seen before facets and footage" on Tendulkar.
A lot of footage is being collected from cricket boards across the world for the movie by the company. “Someone had to capture these memories for the generations to come who will want to know what the Tendulkar-era was like,” Ravi said.
Sachin has appeared on the big screen in the past. He had a cameo role in Stumped (2003). But this is slated to be his biggest presence on the silver screen till date. Sachin enjoys godlike popularity in India with a devout, religious following. The movie will be released in over 2000 theaters worldwide.
Sachin has himself reached out in the past to his fans, inviting suggestions for the title of the film.
Sachin promised a reward to the title which would be selected for the film.
