What is Alastair Cook's net worth and salary?

Alastair Cook has been a top Test batsman for years now

England Test captain Alastair Cook has been an ever-present in the England national team for years now and has also led his team to many great feats in Test cricket. He has been a consistent performer for his side since his debut in 2006 and has been able to succeed while opening the batting in almost every cricket playing nation in the world.

Never seen as the most flamboyant or talented, Cook has made the most of his limited talents as a cricketer. He played a huge role in two of England’s biggest overseas Test series wins in the last decade.

In the 2010-11 Ashes series in Australia as well the 2012-13 tour of India, Cook was the highest run scorer having scored 766 runs and 562 runs respectively, which meant that he would go on to be adjudged ‘Man of the Series’ in both the series victories.

He is now the highest scorer in Asian conditions for any non-Asian batsman as well, achieving this feat after a knock of 263 against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi. This statistic shows that he has the ability to adapt to different conditions and still excel.

Alastair has a good track record in ODI cricket too, having scored five centuries in 92 matches and also captaining England to the Champions Trophy 2013 final, where they lost to eventual champions India.

Any Indian cricketer who possesses such impressive credentials as the England man would be earning plenty of money ever year, inclusive of the millions brought in from advertisements and sponsorships themselves.

Let us have a brief look at how much Cook makes in a year and his net worth.

Earnings from England Cricket

Cook currently earns handsomely as a contracted player for the England Cricket Team. The retainer fee in a central contract is £650,000, which replaces the players’ county salary. Players who have been awarded a central contract also get match fees; £12000 for a Test Match, £5000 for an ODI match and £3500 for a T20 match.

Cook, being the test captain, earns 25% more in his central contract as compared to the other players.

The pay of all English players was a matter of contention between the board and the players in 2013. It was resolved after the board agreed to raise the players’ salaries by a substantial amount.

Apart from the contract, Cook also makes decent money from advertisements and sponsorships. His total net worth from all his earnings combining the salary as well as advertisements has been pegged at around $8 million in 2014.

Cook has endorsed many brands including Rankin’s Series 9 Laptops as well as Buxton Water. Here’s a video of him featuring in a Buxton Water ad:

The English batsman is also a philanthropist and contributes to many social causes. He has made donations to The Great City race for their breast cancer campaign and has also walked naked on the ramp with his teammates Stuart Broad and James Anderson to raise awareness for testicular cancer courtesy the Everyman Campaign.

Like any well-earning sportsman, Cook has interests in owning stylish and speedy cars like the Jaguar XFR and also owns his own property in England.

The IPL lure and troubles with English board

The Indian Premier League has been a big lure for cricketers across the world, but most English cricketers are not able to participate in the T20 cricket league due to restrictions imposed by the English Cricket Board. Cook, for all the top level stuff he has displayed throughout his career, has never been a part of any IPL side which means that he has missed out on the opportunity to earn millions of dollars in a very short span of time.
