Team India will look to continue their winning run when they take on Bangladesh in Match 17 of the ongoing ICC men's ODI World Cup 2023. The highly anticipated fixture is scheduled to take place at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Thursday, October 19.

Bangladesh, who started their campaign with a win against Afghanistan, have endured two back-to-back defeats in their last couple of games. It won't be an easy tie for them once again as India are on a roll.

The Rohit Sharma-led side have won their first three games of the tournament and will be riding high on confidence after hammering arch-rivals Pakistan in Ahmedabad.

India and Bangladesh have battled against each other in 40 ODIs, where the Men in Blue have recorded 31 wins. Bangladesh have won eight ODIs against India, while one game ended in no-result.

India last hosted Bangladesh for an ODI at home 25 years ago

It may take many fans by surprise that the upcoming game between the two teams will be the first match between India and Bangladesh in India in 25 years.

The last time Bangladesh played an ODI against India in India was in May 1998. The two teams met during a tri-series involving India, Bangladesh, and Kenya, played in India.

While the hosts went on to beat Kenya in the final to clinch the tri-nation series, Bangladesh faced India twice in the group stage. Their last battle was hosted at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where India recorded a five-wicket win.

After putting Bangladesh in to bat first, the Indian bowlers dished out an exemplary performance as they reduced the visitors to 21/3. They inflicted further damage by taking five more wickets within the next 50 runs.

A 44-run partnership for the ninth wicket between Hasibul Hossain and Khaled Mashud helped Bangladesh cross the 100-run mark. Then, Sachin Tendulkar struck twice in two balls to bundle the opposition out for 115.

India started their hunt for 116 runs on a positive note. While Tendulkar scored a quick-fire 33, Navjot Singh Sidhu made 41 off 52 balls. With just 44 more runs to get and all 10 wickets in hand, the Indian team lost a bit of concentration and went from 72/0 to 107/5.

However, Ajay Jadeja, who remained not out at 16, finished the game off for India as they chased down the total with five wickets and 124 balls in hand.

For India, Anil Kumble bagged the Player of the Match award as the leg-spinner took 3/17 in his 10 overs in the first innings.
