2018 has been a wonderful year for gaming across all consoles. This year has featured some of the most critically acclaimed releases on the PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC. Not all titles get a release across all consoles though. Some games are exclusive to a given console and you can only play it on that console. #5. Far Cry 5

The fifth main installment in the Far Cry series, Far Cry 5 returned with their famous open world and dystopian setting. The game is set in the fictional town of Hope County, where a cult is brewing and their leader, Joseph Seed rules the land.
Players take control of an unnamed sheriff who needs to free the county from this delusional cult leader. The game involves a lot of open world exploration, combat via firearms and melee weapons and you will also need to face wildlife that is scattered across the game.
The game also features a multiplayer mode, both cooperative and competitive. Not only is this an extremely well-designed game with lots to do, but the game also addresses some real-life political issues. It's a fun game with a compelling story, making it a great open world release for 2018.
A direct sequel, Far Cry 5: New Dawn is set to release in 2019.

#4. Assassin's Creed: Odyssey

We thought Ubisoft peaked with the prequel, Assassin's Creed: Origins. Assassin's Creed: Odyssey returned with the classic Assassin's Creed style of gameplay, set in Greece. A war is brewing between Athens and Sparta and the player fights for both sides to unite their family.
This is the first Assassin's Creed where players can choose the gender of the protagonist. The game also features different styles of combat which are up to the players to choose. You can also engage with the open world by doing things such as developing a relationship and committing crimes. Naval combat is also featured in this game.
The extremely detailed open world, gameplay mechanics and the large number of things players can do in the game place this at #4 on the list.
#3. God of War

God of War is one of the best critically acclaimed series of 2018. The game features the return of protagonist Kratos, but this time it's set in Norse mythology. It is a sequel to the 2010 game God of War 3. Previous iterations of God of War used to feature Greek mythology.
In the game, players can explore six of the nine realms that are present in Norse Mythology. The story, gameplay mechanics and features of mythical creatures such as dark elves, Draugrs and Wulvers have made this one of the best selling PS4 games of 2018. It is also the highest rated game, along with the original God of War in the series.

#2. Spiderman

2018 was the year that we FINALLY got a good Spiderman game. The previous best Spiderman was Spiderman 2 for the PS4, which was also an open world exploration featuring actor Tobey Maguire.
Spiderman for the PS4 features a huge open world of New York City, where players can fight crimes, collect tokens and take photos of different spots in the city. Players can also progressively unlock new suits which gives Spiderman different powers and different looks.
