The player count for Battlefield 2042 has been on the decline for a good while now, and despite occasional updates, players are not being won over. The game is available on all major platforms, but only via Steam can we track the player count the most accurately.
The numbers have steadily declined in a short time to where they have even fallen behind less-publicized games made by smaller studios.
The revelation comes from a post made on Reddit made by u/flatcokezero. The graphic posted by the user shows a side-by-side comparison of the game's player count with the two previous Battlefield games. Curiously enough, the latest Battlefield title had a player count that was even lower than World War 3.
In terms of scale, World War 3 is a lot smaller than Battlefield 2042, so for it to have more active players than the much-maligned AAA game has to be shocking for DICE and EA.
Players make fun of Battlefield 2042's player count
It appears from these comments that fans have already given up on the game. One fan stated that the game can't be salvaged irrespective of whatever DICE or EA tries.
Previous PC versions of Battlefield games were launched exclusively on EA's Origin app. However, 2042 is available on Steam as well, and this makes the player count comparison even more skewed.
Interestingly, World War 3 reportedly does not even have servers in Asia, which has one of the largest number of gamers in the world. This makes the situation that much worse for Battlefield 2042 as it is being trumped by a game that does not even enjoy worldwide server support, pointed out u/St0lz.
And it seems World War 3 fans are certainly fine with things as they aree.
When there's a debate, it is usually pointed out by some that the numbers are from Steam, i.e., PC alone. Indeed, there are more players on the various consoles, but the fall on PC has been alarming. The issue with the game is also not exclusive to PCs, so it is likely that numbers have fallen on consoles as well.
How can the game regain its playerbase?
It is quite obvious that fans of the franchise are not happy. There have been several reasons as to why it has come to this, which we have covered extensively since the game's release. Solving these issues will be the best way to revive Batllefield 2042's player count; however, that is easier said than done.
DICE rolled out some updates recently, one of which includes a reworked scoreboard for Battlefield 2042. There have also been promises to rework the maps to reduce the size of the battlefield. However, players want more significant changes at this point and for the developers to deliver on their promise.
