The new marketing footage starts with Sam being asked to extend the Chiral Network to the south. This objective supposedly sets him on a journey to explore the two major regions featured in Death Stranding 2: Mexico and the Australian Outback. We see stills of lush greenery mixed with mountainous deserts. One shot also features kangaroos, animals indigenous to Australia. We also see some snowy regions and forests. So far, it looks like the second title will focus on regional diversity.
Natural disasters

In the next scenes, the trailer introduces natural disasters. The ones mainly shown in the footage are flash floods and earthquakes. These calamities will have an actual impact on your gameplay. The former can sweep you off in an instant, while the latter causes liquids to rise from the ground. Thus, just like the geographical elements in the first game, you'll need to prepare for these disasters and conquer them to progress in DS2.
The trailer also showcased spirits of the dead. If these entities consume you (or any living being), they'll trigger a voidout: a massive explosion that wipes everything nearby. Thus, it looks like your death to these entities will have a massive effect on your next time trying the mission.
Gameplay and progression

Next, we see the delivery gameplay in Death Stranding 2. Aside from just finding the most efficient route, you will also need to hold your cargo tightly. Packages can get separated from you with ease. If they drop into a flowing river or some other moving mechanism, they'll get swept away, causing you to spend your energy recovering them.
The trailer also shows the progression loop. Sam's stats can be upgraded, and there are Active Skeletons you can equip to strengthen your body. There are APAS enhancements you can unlock that work as unique skills.
An important quality-of-life mechanic featured in the trailer is that cars can pick up packages from a distance via cables in DS2. This saves you time you'd have otherwise spent exiting the car, picking up the box, and re-entering it as in the first game.
The next feature shown in the trailer is the Photo Mode, which will allow you to capture interesting compositions in-game. From what is shown in the trailer, it features a large variety of options you can tinker with to create the perfect image.
The final stretch of the trailer shows the gameplay improvements to both combat and stealth. While they were overlooked in the first title, the sequel puts a major focus on both elements. You will sometimes need to stealth-kill a few powerful enemies, while at other times, you can go out guns blazing. Overall, it feels like Death Stranding 2 is catching up to Kojima's iconic Metal Gear Solid franchise.
