Deltarune: How to carry over progress from demo to full game

Toby Fox’s Deltarune is a charming and chaotic RPG set in a parallel universe to Undertale. Chapters 1 and 2 (demo) of this game are free, and Chapters 3 and 4 are available with the purchase of the full version. Many players who have enjoyed the demo and want to continue might be wondering if their save data carries over to the full version. The answer is yes, it does.

PC and Mac

On PC and Mac, all you need to do is plug and play. If you’ve completed the demo and have saved data on your system, the full version will automatically recognize it. No special steps are needed — your progress will just carry over.

Consoles (Switch, PS4, PS5, Switch 2)

For console players, it’s still easy, but there are a few extra things to watch out for:

When you first launch the full version, the game will check for demo save data on your console.
If it finds it, you’ll get a prompt asking to import your progress.
This only works if you're using the same user account you played the demo on. The save is connected to that account.
Also, the demo save must still be stored on your console.

If you are upgrading your console, then the Nintendo Switch 2 and PS5 versions can also import save data from the original Switch and PS4 versions, respectively.

Changed your mind about importing?

If you skipped the import save data option and now want it back, there's only one way, and that is to delete your full game save data. This will trigger the import prompt again on startup.

Playing on a new device or account

Even if you can’t import your save, Deltarune lets you start from any chapter, so you won’t be locked out of content. Of course, playing in order is always recommended for the best story flow.

Importing your demo save into the full version of Deltarune is straightforward, as long as you stick to the same device and account.
