Defending is an extremely underrated attribute in basketball and 2K alike, while everyone wants to be flashy and make the highlight reel sometimes defending is the easiest way to get a win.
In this years NBA 2K19, there are some really great defensive archetypes that are extremely fun to use both offline and online and will help you and your squad get wins whenever you please. Here we will go through the top three defensive archetypes to use in NBA 2K19
#3 Pure Lockdown Defender - Shooting Guard
Player Creation: Height - 6'6, Weight - 220 Pounds, Wingspan - Max
This 6'6 defensive beast is a build that is rarely seen on the online servers, even though when used correctly it is one of the most frustrating archetypes to come up against in the park.
The defensive stats are obviously going to be incredible, this player can reach a max 99 steal along with a 92 shot contest and 89 block, but what sets it a class above other defender builds is the offensive stats and badges you can get.
With the long wingspan, you'll be able to get your contested mid-range and three-point shot above 70.
This is fairly good considering it is a defensive build and will allow you to be a threat on offence and not just a passenger waiting to lockdown your opposition on the other end.
A key badge for this build is the silver corner specialist, once this badge is achieved you'll be able to knock down your fair share of threes no matter what your rating is, no doubt a great badge to have on your side.
The athleticism of this build is incredibly good, a 98 lateral quickness will allow you to keep up with the fastest of guards and forwards with ease and if you come across a deadly sharpshooter will be able to close the distance a contest a shot no matter where it is on the court.
#2 Slashing Rim Protector - Power Forward
Player Creation: Height - 6'10, Weight - 270 Pounds, Wingspan - Max
A rim protector can be one of the most beneficial builds to involve in your squad at the park or Pro-AM courts.
This big man will be able to lock down the three to five positions and then hurt them going the other way when used efficiently.
This archetype will not have that great of a shot to nobody's surprise, but can still be an offensive weapon with an 85 standing dunk and 84 shot close.
The 270 pounds allow for a big increase in strength to help you bully smaller oppositions and hold your own against all the 7'3 Glass Cleaners out there.
An 89 steal will mean you'll be able to strip most bigs as they usually have very little ball control and will allow you to start fast breaks for your team to pick up easy points.
A huge 20 badges can be earned through this build, the main HOF badge being Chase Down Artist.
This combined with an 85 block and 80 lateral quickness you'll be able to help your guards if they come across a speedy slasher and with the gold Rim Protector badge will make it almost impossible for the opposition to score any points in the paint.
Keeping this build at 6'10 allows for level 1 athletic dunk packages to be equipped while still getting all big man dunks as well.
#1 Slashing Defender
Player Creation: Height - 6'9, Weight - 220 Pounds, Wingspan - Max
Similar to the 2018/19 MVP candidate, Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Slashing Defender is incredibly overpowered and difficult to negate on either end of the floor in 2K19.
The perfect defensive archetype will make it seem impossible for your opposition to find a way past you or even dribble near you without getting the ball stolen.
This archetype can guard positions one through five as it has the speed at 81 to keep up with basically all guards and the height, wingspan and strength to get rebounds and hold its own in the post against centres.
The 99 steal and a HOF Pick Pocket badge make this build without a doubt the most annoying build to face, players won't be able to dribble near you without getting a turnover and a fast break against them.
The silver One Man Fast Break, along with the athletic dunk packages and gold Posterizer make this build a dominant force on offence as well and one few people will be able to stop.
Silver Hustler Rebounder will mean you can run this build as your big and not be exposed by taller centres, and mixed with the Putback King badge allows for some nice dunks over slow centres that can position themselves in time for the defensive rebound.
