Splitgate 2 Battle Royale shadow-dropped at Summer Game Fest 2025

Ian Proulx, CEO of 1047 Games, shadow-dropped Splitgate 2 Battle Royale during the Summer Game Fest 2025. After coming onto the stage and recalling how Splitgate was conceptualized in a dorm room, Ian Proulx stated how the team at 1047 Games wanted to take portals to the next level in Splitgate 2. This free-to-play arena shooter will feature a new Battle Royale mode where portals will become a traversal mechanic like no other.

New Splitgate 2 Battle Royale game mode

During the Summer Game Fest 2025, the CEO of 1047 Games, Ian Proulx, talked about his inspiration behind Splitgate that arose from his love for FPS games:

"Now with the help from our amazing community, we've built Splitgate 2. Why? Because I grew up playing Halo. And I'm tired of playing the same Call of Duty every year. And I wish we could have Titanfall 3"

As the idea behind portals in Splitgate 2 was being spiced up, the team at 1047 Games decided to make them capable of taking players to entirely new worlds. The combat, movement, and fluid mechanics of Arena shooters were then combined with massive worlds to bring the new Splitgate 2 Battle Royale.

This reveal took many by surprise as Splitgate 2 just released a few weeks back in June 2025. Although the servers were riddled with issues, which forced the team to take the game offline for maintenance and fixes, it came back live the following week with better stability.

The showcase at Summer Game Fest 2025 highlighted some interesting mechanics like dropping onto the worlds, looting weapons and utilities, portals, shrinking zones, and more. Fans can take the new Splitgate 2 Battle Royale out for a spin right now.
