Apex Legends is a battle royale set in the Titanfall universe.

The newest battle royale, Apex Legends which was launched on February 4, 2019, for PC, PS4 and the Xbox One took the gaming community by storm by racking up 25 million players in just a week.

It also had a $50K tournament in its initial week. The game, developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts is being considered as the next big thing after Fortnite and PUBG. Cross-platform play for the game is also in development.

One of the other big announcements made by the company is that they are considering cross-platform play and a mobile version for Andriod and IOS could arrive in the coming months. More details about this can be found here.

Many people consider that Apex Legends has just produced a hype which will die in the coming months. But, it does not seem to be slowing down. Top streamers are exclusively streaming the battle royale and thousands of new players are joining every day. It definitely seems like the game will be taking away a large chunk of the player base from both PUBG and Fortnite in PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

So, will it produce the same effect in mobile as well upon its release? The short answer is yes, it definitely will. But, will it be able to become the most played mobile battle royale in mobile and dethrone PUBG Mobile? Now that is complicated.

One of the main things we have to look at is the fact that Electronic Arts are deciding to go the route Epic Games did with Fortnite and that is to allow cross-platform play between mobile and other consoles. PUBG, on the other hand, released a separate and much better mobile optimized game for Android and IOS.

Initially, it was speculated that the mobile version of Fortnite will be taking over the battle royale market in mobile as well as it has done in the console and PC versions. That did not happen. One of the main reasons for this is the high specifications that the game demands in mobile. If a cross-platform version for Apex Legends in mobile will be developed, the specifications that the game will demand will also be really high. This will eliminate a large chunk of players especially from India and South East Asia where mediocre phones are the trend.

With this being said, the CEO of Electronic Arts did say that they are developing the mobile version while keeping the Asian region in mind. So, they will definitely be considering the fact that most mobile gamers in this region have a low to a mid-range smartphone. The mobile version for Apex Legends may thus be optimized for lower-end devices and certainly, give a tough challenge to PUBG Mobile.
