Coco Gauff recently revealed the heartfelt message she received from Lewis Hamilton following her triumph at the French Open. The 21-year-old tennis star detailed how the Formula 1 icon sent her a message in the aftermath of her victory at the Paris event.
Gauff, who clinched the Roland Garros Women’s Singles crown after rallying from a set down to defeat Aryna Sabalenka, has been on a media round following her clay-court triumph. During her appearance on the First Take show, she was quizzed about the most unexpected direct message she had received following her title success.
Responding to the question, as seen in a clip shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Women’s Tennis No. 2 talked about the message she received from Hamilton.
"Probably Lewis Hamilton. He DM'd me. I saw that actually this morning. And he sent a nice message saying he was so proud of the way I handled everything too. That was pretty cool," said Coco after the host asked her to reveal the most unexpected text or dm she received after winning the French Open.
Although known for his success in Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton has forged a bond with several athletes from other sports, including tennis. The Scuderia Ferrari driver has previously attended several Majors, including Wimbledon and, most recently, the 2024 US Open tournament.
When Lewis Hamilton spoke about his love for women’s tennis

Lewis Hamilton previously opened up about his love for women’s tennis. The seven-time Formula 1 champion shared his thoughts during an interaction with the media ahead of the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The 40-year-old, who was in attendance for the 2024 New York Fashion Week, explained how he and Anna Wintour decided to attend the US Open following the conclusion of the fashion showcase. Sharing his thoughts, the Ferrari driver praised the women participating in the sport, describing them as strong and powerful.
“I love watching women’s tennis. Such strong and powerful women—the precision and everything—it’s quite impressive to see. And that’s why Anna and I enjoy watching tennis together,” Hamilton said while speaking to the media.
Both Lewis Hamilton and Anna Wintour were in the VIP box during the final of the 2024 US Open at Flushing Meadows, where Aryna Sabalenka completed a straight-sets victory against Jessica Pegula.
Shifting focus to on-track action, Hamilton will continue his pursuit of a first Grand Prix podium with his new team, Ferrari. The British driver is yet to record a Grand Prix podium finish with the Italian outfit, with his best result being a fourth place at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola.
Hamilton, however, has recorded two podium finishes during the two Sprint races—China and Miami—held so far in the 2025 season. The 40-year-old will aim to clinch a maiden race podium for the Maranello outfit at the upcoming Montreal race—a Grand Prix where he boasts the joint-most race victories, seven.
