McLaren's Lando Norris recently claimed that the Netflix docu-series Drive to Survive is certainly "exciting and good" but only to an extent where the storylines are not overdramatized significantly.

As reported by GPFans, the McLaren driver commented on the Netflix series, the latest season of which was released last Friday, saying:

“There are things which may be a bit too much like that and I don’t agree too much with it, but on the whole, I think it’s just exciting and good for everyone. As long as they don’t overdo it and literally make someone look like they’ve done something which they definitely haven’t done, I think that’s too far. As long as they don’t do that, it’s good.”

Drive to Survive has often been criticized for portraying several events in a significantly different manner than the one in which they took place in real life. In line with this, Lando Norris pointed out an instance from the latest season in which the action from the season opener in Bahrain did truly reflect what happened on track.

Norris said:

“There’s a bit of me and Daniel going side by side in turn one when we’re not even close and I claim he pushes me off, which is from a completely different race.”

For such reasons, reigning world champion Max Verstappen decided not to take part in the fourth season of the series.

Lando Norris' former teammate claims Netflix took the portrayal of their relationship "too far"

Drive to Survive was especially criticized for their misinterpretation and overdramatization of Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz's relationship in their last year as teammates at McLaren. The Spaniard revealed that he does believe that the animosity portrayed between the drivers and several other incidents is highly unrealistic, although the series overall is benefiting the sport. The Ferrari driver said:

“I think in the case of Lando and I, it was pushed a bit too far. Basically all the fans that know Formula 1 – there are a lot, especially now as we are followed so much around the world – realised that Netflix went, probably yes, too far with Lando and me.”

Sainz, however, revealed his faith in the series and hoped for a more realistic season in the future, saying:

“But I do believe Netflix know it and they are capable of correcting and catching mistakes and they will re-adapt and maybe try and make it a bit more realistic, in that sense.”

Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz have had a wonderful friendship beyond the track. For this reason, fans simply did not appreciate the unrealistic rivalry portrayed between them on the Netflix series.
