Piastri claimed his first-ever Grand Prix win after he took the Checkered Flag at Hungaroring on Sunday. He came home ahead of his teammate Lando Norris and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton to pick the victory after 18 months in Formula 1.

However, the race received ample flak due to McLaren's team orders. While it was a well-deserved victory for the Australian driver, the miscalculated strategic calls ruined the moment for Piastri and Norris.

Despite that, Piastri was happy to have secured the win after leading for most of the race. Almost a day later, he thanked the fan who wished him all the luck ahead of the race.

"To the fan who gave me this the other day, he said I was gonna win. You weren't wrong. Could start a new business. Thank you," the McLaren driver said in a video posted by McLaren on X.

"Disclaimer, I'm not accepting money or bribes from fans. Just thought I would put that in so that I don't get sued," further joked Piastri.

Thanks to their 1-2 finish in Hungary, McLaren overtook Ferrari in the Constructors' Championship standings. They are currently in P2 and are 51 points behind leaders Red Bull.

"[It's] very, very special," Piastri said in the post-race interview. "This is really the day I dreamed of as a kid, standing on the top step of an F1 podium. Obviously a bit complicated at the end but I put myself in the right position at the start, and thank you to the team for an amazing effort, and an amazing car."

"It’s a hell of a lot of fun racing for McLaren, so I can’t thank them enough for giving me the opportunity to be in F1, and to be able to win together 18 months in is an incredible feeling.”

Thanks to his victory, Oscar Piastri extended his lead over Red Bull's Sergio Perez in P5. He currently has 149 points. His teammate Lando Norris is in P2 with 189 points after 13 races.
