3 Possible replacements for Unai Emery at Arsenal

As the season progresses, fans are increasingly impatient with Unai Emery's management of players and tactics. With just 18 points from 13 games, Arsenal sit eighth in the Premier League table standings. Furthermore, the Gunners have not won since defeating Bournemouth at the start of October. Some disappointing results include defeats to Sheffield United and Leicester City as well as the recent draw with Southampton.

The 48-year-old is clearly no longer the right man to lead the Gunners and he might soon be sacked if this poor run of results were to continue. In the event that the former Paris Saint-Germain manager is sacked halfway through this season, here are three most viable options Arsenal could consider appointing as the next manager.

#3 Freddie Ljungberg/Steve Bould (Interim manager)

It is never easy to appoint a new manager halfway through the season as most managers would prefer taking charge of a new team before the start of a new season. Until the board finds a suitable candidate, Arsenal could turn to their former players namely Freddie Ljungberg and Steve Bould to take charge on an interim basis.

Bould has been the Gunners' assistant manager since 2012 and knows every player extremely well. Meanwhile, Ljungberg had previously worked with the Arsenal-U23s and appears to be a fan-favourite to replace Emery temporarily.

In early November, Bayern Munich sacked Niko Kovac and promoted Hansi Flick to be the interim manager. The change has brought about a positive change in Bayern's results and they are now on a three-match winning streak across all competitions.

The Gunners purportedly has an easy run of games in the coming weeks as they are set to face Norwich City and Brighton & Hove Albion. Getting either Bould or Ljungberg to take charge would do minimal harm and might even help change the situation that the club is currently facing.

#2 Massimiliano Allegri

The former Juventus manager has been out of a job since the summer but he has often been tipped to replace either Emery or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United. Over the weekend, the Italian was seen at the stands of San Siro as he watched Napoli draw with Inter Milan. This has sparked rumours that he could replace Carlo Ancelotti should the latter be sacked by Napoli.

Many big clubs want to appoint him as the manager and if Arsenal were to relief Emery of his duties in the coming weeks, Allegri could be a potential candidate to take over. The 52-year-old manager is known for his time at Juventus where has won numerous Serie A titles. Although inexperienced in the Premier League, his win record at Turin is surely impressive enough for the North London club to appoint him.

#1 Mikel Arteta

Arteta has been working with Guardiola since his retirement

After Arsene Wenger left the club in May 2018, Mikel Arteta was among the shortlisted candidates to replace the Frenchman. A former player of the North London club, Arteta has been working alongside Pep Guardiola ever since his retirement in 2016.

The assistant manager of Manchester City would surely have reaped many benefits from working with Guardiola. Although Arteta has not managed a club by himself, we ought to consider that the former Arsenal captain has seen City lift the Premier League trophy for two consecutive seasons and worked with one of the best managers in the world.

All these experiences will surely be useful if the Gunners were to appoint him as the new manager.

As a relatively new manager, Frank Lampard has achieved pretty admirable results in his first season in charge Chelsea. The Blues are currently fourth in the table with Lampard getting much praise for how well he has adapted and utilised the youths.

Arsenal fans might be hoping that Arteta can replicate Lampard's success and guide the Gunners to glory.
