It's not surprising then that three of his Guinness records pertain to his exploits at thi verys competition.

Ronaldo went on an unprecedented goal-scoring spree in the 2017-18 campaign with Los Blancos, scoring in 11 consecutive matches - a run that began with the final of 2016-17 season and came to an end with a last minute penalty in the quarter-final against his current side Juventus in the following campaign.

Portugal v France - Final: UEFA Euro 2016

One thing that has come to define Ronaldo over the years is his consistency, especially in the final third.

He has reached double-digit figures in every single season with his club since 2006-07 season, and in 11 of the 13 seasons that followed he managed to score 20+ goals. He has been equally prolific for his nation as well, scoring at least one goal every year in the Burgundy jersey since 2004, barring 2009.

Ronaldo is a performer at the big events, and is the first player in history to score in four consecutive UEFA EURO competitions. The run started from the Euro held in his home country in 2004 and has extended till the last edition in 2016, where he played a huge role in Portugal's first ever major international win.

#1 Most football (soccer) FIFA World Cup tournaments scored in by a player

Portugal v Spain: Group B - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia
Portugal v Spain: Group B - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

Alhough Cristiano Ronaldo remains in pursuit of his first FIFA World Cup trophy, we can say that it has not been for lack of trying on his part.

Ronaldo has been an active part of his side's World Cup campaigns since his first appearance at the 2006 edition. They finished fourth that year, which was their second best performance ever at the main event.

Ronaldo had his best performance individually in the 2018 edition of the competition, but despite his four-goal haul he failed to carry them beyond the round of 16. He might've fallen short of landing the elusive trophy, but individually he has managed to get his name inscribed in the history books by becoming only the fourth player ever to score in four different editions of the tournament.

Ronaldo's total tally currently stands at seven goals.

The record reads:

The most FIFA World Cup tournaments scored in by a player is 4, first achieved by Uwe Seller (Germany) playing for West Germany in the 1958, 1962, 1966 and 1970 FIFA World Cup tournaments. This was equaled by Pelé (Brazil) playing for Brazil in the same four tournaments, and by Miroslav Klose (Germany) playing for Germany in the 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup tournaments. This was again equaled by Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) playing for Portugal in the 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cup tournaments.
