#3 David Alaba

Having chased him for the majority of last summer, Barcelona lost David Alaba to their bitter rivals Real Madrid who got their man on a free transfer. Alaba's resolve to defend the Madrid badge completely demolished Barcelona's chances of acquiring the Austrian.

The Catalan giants have faced monumental hardships in establishing a solid backline following the departure of former club captain Carles Puyol in 2014. While Gerard Pique pitched in with some valuable contributions, Barcelona continue to struggle defensively at the time of writing.

If Alaba were to leave Real Madrid to join Barcelona, not only would the move create some catchy headlines, but also fix the Blaugrana's leaky defense. Having proved his longevity and worth at Bayern Munich, the 29-year-old versatile defender would be a welcomed addition at Camp Nou.

#2 Luka Modric

Until 2018, Barcelona had two of the best creators in the history of the sport on their roster, i.e. Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi. Fast forward three years and both playmakers have now departed Camp Nou to seek shelter elsewhere.

While Barcelona have had a decent start to their post-Messi era, the lack of a chief creator is blatantly apparent. Even though 18-year-old Pedri has contributed handsomely, the addition of a world-class visionary like Luka Modric from Real Madrid will revolutionize a faltering Barcelona side.

The Croatian is still going strong at the ripe old age of 36, making consistent appearances for Real Madrid. With his skill of spotting tight passes, Barcelona can really improve their attacking output.

#1 Karim Benzema

In all honesty, Barcelona are in dire need of a finisher. While they do need to revamp their creative options, a proper target man is an absolute necessity for the Blaugrana. And who better than Real Madrid talisman Karim Benzema to lead their lackluster attack.

With injury-prone Sergio Aguero on the wrong side of 30, Barcelona currently have Martin Braithwaite and new loanee Luuk de Jong as their two designated strikers. While both players have ample top-flight experience, they are nowhere near Barcelona's level.

Meanwhile, Benzema has proficiently taken up the mantle of being Real Madrid's main man following Cristiano Ronaldo's departure. Having recently signed a two-year extension with Los Blancos, Benzema already has nine goal involvements in La Liga this season. With his all-round and consistent performances to rely on, Barcelona can realistically get back to their best.
