Antoine Griezmann says his future is with Atletico Madrid unless Diego Simeone isn't in charge of the club. The Frenchman was one of the most sought after players in the transfer market this summer being linked with Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid.
The 25-year-old forward had an outstanding season with the Madrid team leading them to the final of the UEFA Champions League final. He also played a huge role in guiding France to the final of the UEFA European Championships ultimately losing out to rival Cristiano Ronaldo on both attempts – with Real Madrid winning the Champions League final and Portugal winning the European Championships.
Griezmann scored a mammoth 32 goals in 54 appearances for Diego Simeone's side last season and credits a lot of the achievement on the Argentine manager.
With an offer from Paris Saint-Germain on the table, Griezmann says he'll consider leaving only if Simeone is certain to leave – something he made sure wasn't happening before he renegotiated his contract with the club.
"The only doubt would be if Simeone leaves for PSG or wherever," Griezmann told French TV programme Telefoot. "I called him before extending my contract and he confirmed to me that he was staying. I can learn a lot from him."
"PSG are not my goal at the moment. I'm happy in Spain. I'm always proud to be popular with the fans. I try to smile and do my best. If they like it, it's even better."
Simeone, himself, has been linked with a move away the Spanish capital this summer. After losing out to Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League, he said he was seriously considering quitting as the manager. English Premier League sides Arsenal and Chelsea are said to be monitoring his situation very carefully – lesser now for the Blues given the recent appointment of Antonio Conte.
