What’s the story?

Paris Saint-Germain have made Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho their transfer priority this summer and want to sign the Brazilian after the ongoing Copa America 2019.

In case you didn’t know…

Barcelona broke their transfer record to bring Coutinho to the Camp Nou from Liverpool in January 2018. Despite forcing a move away from Anfield to make his dream switch to Barcelona, he has struggled for consistency in Spain. Coutinho's below-par performances last season have seen his transfer value dip to €90 million from €100 million.

The heart of the matter

According to Spanish sports daily AS, Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Coutinho and are already in touch with the player's representatives. The Ligue 1 champions are looking to seal the transfer after Coutinho's Copa America campaign with Brazil.

The 27-year-old is a top priority for new PSG sporting director Leonardo, who has already communicated his desire to club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. The idea of joining PSG to reinstate his career after a poor season with Barcelona could be enticing to the player also.

Joining PSG could assure him a prominent role at the Parc des Princes, besides having the chance to link up with his Brazil teammate Neymar as well as other compatriots - Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Dani Alves.

Manchester United and Chelsea are also interested in bringing back the former Liverpool star to the Premier League, but it seems PSG are curently leading the race to sign Coutinho.

What's next?

Coutinho could be looking to move away from Barcelona this summer in a bid to revive his career, and PSG could be the ideal new destination for him. The Brazilian star's present contract with the Ctalan giants runs until the summer of 2023.
