The Brazilian has become a likely scapegoat for most of this season due to several poor displays. Many deemed the former Napoli's man incapable of emulating N'golo Kante's defensive presence and accused him of often making meaningless passes.

However, the critics have seemed to disappear as the 27-year-old has regained his form recently. He became one of Chelsea's standout performers and were capable of maintaining stability in the middle of the park for a full 120 minutes in the Frankfurt game.

He was impressive in keeping Frankfurt attacker's at bay as he registered 4 tackles, 2 clearances, and 2 interceptions throughout the match. He completed 88 percent of his deliveries and even recorded 2 important key passes for his teammates. His successful penalty shot also helped Chelsea to win the game.

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Many have doubted the Spaniard since Chelsea bought him for a record-breaking €80 million. He made the spotlight when he was involved in a quarrel with Maurizio Sarri at the Carabao Cup final.

However, he became a hero and successfully redeemed himself in this game. He made several important saves to kept Frankfurt's attackers at bay and, his ball distribution was also excellent as he completed 83 percent of his passes.

He was hardly to blame for Luka Jovic's goal despite he could do better at dealing with the striker in 1 on 1 situation. Kepa also made 2 saves in the penalty shootout to sent Chelsea into the final.
