Reports: Chelsea table offer for 25-year-old Real Madrid star

Real Madrid v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: First Leg
Zidane would not like to lose his key midfielder

What's the rumour?

It is fair to say that new Chelsea signing Tiemoue Bakayoko has failed to live up to expectations at Stamford Bridge. With the Blues midfield not looking too physically robust at the moment, reports in Don Balon claim that Chelsea have made an offer to sign Real Madrid midfielder Carlos Casemiro.

The 25-year-old has become an integral member of Zidane's Real Madrid side and it will be interesting to see if Madrid entertain any offers for the Brazilian star.

In case you didn't know...

Casemiro will certainly add some bite to the Chelsea midfield

The defensive midfielder really came to his own last season as Zidane used him along with Modric and Kross to form a potent and complete midfield trio. Powerful on the ball and not afraid to make tackles, the Brazilian was one of Madrid's most important players last season and earned rave reviews for his performances as a midfield anchor.

Although Casemiro has failed to hit the heights of last season, the 25-year-old has still made 30 appearances for Los Blancos this season and he is definitely one of Zidane's first choice players in the starting XI.

The heart of the matter

Chelsea's two midfield recruits this summer, Danny Drinkwater and Bakayoko have failed to really impose themselves in the first team. With the departure of Matic, a lot of pressure has fallen on Kante and the potential arrival of Casemiro could definitely solve that.

However, with Casemiro being one of Zidane's most favoured players, the deal does not seem too likely although Don Balon claim that Chelsea have already tabled an offer for the defensive midfielder.

Rumour rating/probability

2/10

Don Balon are not the most reliable of sources and this report should definitely be taken with a pinch of salt. Also, even if the reports of a bid are true, it seems highly unlikely that Real Madrid will agree to sell the 25-year-old midfielder.

Author's take

Casemiro would be perfect for the Premier League and Chelsea, but the Brazilian is too valuable for Real Madrid and any potential move looks highly unlikely.
