Finally a signing?

What’s the story?

Chelsea have agreed a deal with Leicester City to sign Riyad Mahrez today according to The Sun. The winger was given permission by Algerian FA to leave the training camp and complete his transfer.

DZFoot reported earlier in the day that Mahrez will be wearing the same jersey color next summer as well. He was linked only with Barcelona and Chelsea and that makes it clear that a move the Stamford Bridge is on the cards.

Mahrez is reportedly in Paris right now waiting for his flight to London. Some reports suggested that he was in Barcelona but that was only to take a connecting flight.

In case you didn’t know...

AS Roma were keen on signing him this summer but the move collapsed as they were unable to agree a deal with Leicester City for him. The Foxes wanted £50 million but AS Roma were only offered £20 million and £25 million.

The heart of the matter

After a series of links here and there, Riyad Mahrez is finally set to join Chelsea. The winger will be joining Antonio Conte's squad for a fee reported to be around £45 million.

The Algerian was keen on leaving Leicester City last summer as well but then Foxes manager, Claudio Ranieri convinced him to stay and help them in the Champions League.

Mahrez was linked with Barcelona this morning but the move seems to have died down.

What’s next?

Chelsea will complete the signing Riyad Mahrez and announce him tonight. He will have his medical first and then head for his contract signing and photo shoot.

Author’s Take

Riyad Mahrez, Eden hazard, Pedro, Willian and Charly Musonda. If that doesn't excite a Chelsea fan, I really don't know what will.

Alvaro Morata needs players like them behind him to provide the service and that will only help him score more and more. Paying £45 million for a player of his caliber and with Premier League experience is a brilliant thing to do!

Interesting to see who Leicester City replace him with. They have Townend lined up but selling Gray as well would affect them badly.
