Former Spain and Barcelona forward David Villa believes that Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane is the best striker in world football at the moment and has tipped him to become one of the strongest contenders for the Euro 2020 Golden Boot next year.

Villa heaps praise on England skipper

The 26-year-old forward has emerged as one of the best strikers in England in recent years and his exploits have been pivotal to Tottenham Hotspur's rise in the Premier League. The North London club have, however, been enduring a dismal campaign which, on Tuesday, led to Mauricio Pochettino's sacking from his position as manager.

Despite their poor start to the new season, Kane managed to register 10 goals in 15 games in all competitions for Spurs so far. He also boasts of being England's sixth highest goal-scorer ever with 32 goals in 45 matches for the Three Lions.

Villa, who announced that he would retire at the end of the current J1 league season, has now heaped praise on Kane, calling him the best striker in world football at present.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said, "He is the best striker, or number nine, in football right now. He is great in almost everything he does, he is one of the candidates for taking the golden boot at Euro 2020 for sure."

The former Barca man also gave his thoughts on Kane's future at Tottenham saying, "You don't need to move to another club to motivate yourself. Harry has always played for Tottenham."

"I know they are not doing so well this year but I'm not in his mind, I don't know his future. He will be a good player wherever he goes for sure, he has the talent to play in other leagues."

Spurs have appointed former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho as the successor to Pochettino and the Portuguese tactician is set to make his debut with the club when they return to action against West Ham on Saturday.
