Manchester City play for the first time since clinching the Premier League title

Manchester City have announced a weakened lineup to face Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday and fans are making hilarious claims.

The Sky Blues officially became league champions after Arsenal's shock 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday as they can't be mathematically caught anymore.

City's only aim hereafter will be to finish with the maximum available points by winning all three of their remaining games, but Pep Guardiola has named a much-changed lineup for today's clash.

Key players like Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, John Stones, Ruben Dias, Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish have all been left on the bench for the hosts.

Argentine star Julian Alvarez will lead the line for City with Riyad Mahrez and Cole Palmer operating from the wings. Rico Lewis, Kalvin Philipps and Phil Foden are the midfielders while the back-four consists of Kyle Walker, Manuel Akanji, Aymeric Laporte and Sergio Gomez.

First-choice goalkeeper Ederson is also benched in favor of Stefan Ortega.

This has prompted funny reactions from Manchester City fans on Twitter. One user claimed that Guardiola "doesn't rate Chelsea", having beaten the Blues thrice this season already, while another felt that Frank Lampard's side "are well and truly in the mud" if they lose to City's C team.

Manchester City can overcome Chelsea with a weakened lineup

With the Premier League title already wrapped up, Pep Guardiola has opted to give many of his Manchester City stars a deserved rest and named a highly changed XI instead.

However, the Sky Blues still look strong on paper, and could beat a beleaguered Chelsea team that has won just once in their last nine top-flight games, losing five.

City also have the psychological advantage here, having beaten the Blues thrice this season already - a 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in the league followed by 2-0 and 4-0 wins at the Etihad in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup respectively.

In fact, since losing 1-0 to Chelsea in the 2021 Champions League finals, City have won every single game against them without conceding a goal.
