Jose Mourinho reacts to his Chelsea sacking - will not take a sabbatical

Jose Mourinho guided Chelsea to the Premier League Title and Capital One Cup last season

Jose Mourinho will not be taking a sabbatical after being sacked by Chelsea on Thursday, the former Chelsea manager confirmed. Mourinho faced the axe after losing nine out of 16 league matches which saw the Blues drop down to 16th in the table, one point above the relegation zone.

Mourinho broke the silence regarding his future through his Los Angeles-based agents CAA, who are in charge of his commercial deals outside football. He also commented that Chelsea were the only club where he was asked to leave a club against his wishes. Mourinho will continue to stay in London, but will not be attending any high profile games as he doesn’t want any speculation about his future.

The statement, released by the CAA agency reads, “He is very positive and is already looking forward. Jose Mourinho is pleased that he returned to Chelsea because he was able to give the fans another Premier League title, which they had not won for many years.”

“He is immensely proud of his eight trophies at Chelsea, and thanks the fans for all their support throughout his two spells at the club,” the statement continued.

“During his career, José has sometimes chosen to leave a club, but only at Chelsea has the club decided that he should leave. Each time represents for him the end of a cycle, and the opportunity to start a new one. José hopes that his future after Chelsea this time will be as successful as when he left the club in 2007.”

Mourinho’s pointed remarks sure to antagonize Chelsea

In a statement that clearly takes aim at the various stakeholders at Chelsea, Mourinho has completely ignored his former players, perhaps still feeling betrayed. Pointing out Chelsea’s relative lack of success in his absence, and the manner of his sacking, Mourinho is sure to have severed ties with the Blues’ board, with another return extremely unlikely.

In pointing out his readiness to take up a new job, Mourinho also took a swipe at former rival, Pep Guardiola, who took a year-long sabbatical after leaving Barcelona. Mourinho’s dismissal may have sparked off a managerial merry-go-round, but Jamie Carragher thinks the Portuguese will sidestep all of that and take the reins at PSG.

Mourinho, who returned to the Premier League with Chelsea in 2013, managed to win the Premier league and League Cup last season. He was rewarded with a new four year contract by Chelsea in the summer which was considered to be a move to ensure his long term involvement with the club.

But a disastrous campaign by the defending champions forced club owner Roman Abramovic to pull the trigger. However, Mourinho’s words make it clear that he does not wish to be out of work for too long.
