Fernando Amorebieta is set to sign a new contract with Athletic Bilbao.

The 27-year-old’s contract situation at the San Mames alerted several clubs over the summer, clubs like Liverpool and Zenit St. Petersburg amongst those teams linked with a bid for the Venezuela international. Reportedly, Zenit approached Amorebieta, offering him €2 million per year, but eventually the deal fell through because of his €50 million release clause. A five year contract was been stalled by the centre-back due to slight differences between both parties, but looks like a fresh deal will be inked pretty soon.
