Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte took an indirect dig at one of his former clubs, Tottenham Hotspur, as he hinted on his imminent managerial return.

The Italian tactician has been out of a job since leaving Spurs in March this year. That happened after an explosive press conference following a 3-3 draw with Southampton, where he questioned the mentality of his players and that of the ownership.

Since then, Conte has not been employed, but recently he has been linked with Napoli. The Italian took the opportunity to have a go at Spurs - who are currently leading the Premier League - telling Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sun):

"One day I would like to train a team that has recently won, because for example I took Chelsea coming off seventh place, Juve were seventh too."

The former Juventus and Chelsea boss added that after some time with his family, he's raring to return to management. About reports of him taking over at Napoli, the Italian said:

"I know that some stories emerged, but now I feel the need to dedicate time to myself and my daughter, who is growing up.
"Now I have unplugged to spend more time with my family and for myself. I continue studying, seeing what changes there are in the sport and understand new situations. When I do return, I will be even more ready to handle the top challenges."

He added that the time off after his Tottenham stint has done him a world of good as he sent a thinly veiled warning to rivals:

"After Tottenham, I promised to dedicate time to family, it's a lifestyle choice. After that, I will be ready to get back to the battle. And when I do, it will be tough for everyone else."

How have Tottenham Hotspur fared this season after former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte's exit?

Since their former manager Antonio Conte's exit last season, Tottenham Hotspur have been quite impressive under new boss Ange Postecoglou. Spurs have lost just once across competitions and are top of the Premier League.

Postecoglou's side are unbeaten in the league, winning six of their eight games, leading second-placed Arsenal on goals scored atop the standings. They have won four of their last five games - all in the league - since their only defeat of the season (on penalties to Fulham in the EFL Cup).

Tottenham return to action after the ongoing break against Fulham at home on October 23. There after they play against Crystal Palace at home four days later before hosting Chelsea on November 6.
