Manchester United star spotted using mobile phone while driving £300k Lamborghini after previously crashing BMW X6 on motorway

Brighton & Hove Albion v Manchester United - Premier League
Erik ten Hag's summer signing causes controversy.

Manchester United winger Antony was caught appearing to use his mobile phone while driving his £300,000 Lamborghini Aventador.

According to the Sun, a fan filmed the Brazilian attacker driving his Lamborghini as he pulled up at traffic lights near the Red Devils' Carrington training ground. The footage seemingly shows Antony, 23, with one hand on his steering wheel and his phone in his right hand.

Antony then drove off while still holding the mobile phone, in the incident occurring on Wednesday (April 26). That was a day before he featured in his side's 2-2 league draw at Tottenham Hotspur.

Such offences involving driving and using a mobile phone can lead to six penalty points and a £200 fine. The AA deems such incidents as 'dangerous driving'. Antony previously crashed his BMW X6 on a motorway on New Year's Eve. His £100,000 car was recovered, but the Brazilian was left shaken by the incident.

Antony joined Manchester United from Ajax last summer for £86 million. He has featured 41 times across competitions, scoring eight goals and providing two assists. The Brazilian is the latest Red Devils first-team player to show on-road indiscipline. Brandon Williams was spotted inhaling nitrous oxide while at the wheel back in March.

Manchester United duo Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez have sent a message to fans to get behind the team and help in the team's quest for a top-four finish. The Red Devils have stumbled recently, losing twice on the bounce. Their most recent 1-0 defeat at West Ham United has left them a point above fifth-placed Liverpool but with a game in hand.

Eriksen and Martinez picked up trophies at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Paris on Monday (May 8). Eriksen won the Comeback of the Year award for his return to action following a cardiac arrest suffered during the 2020 European Championships. Meanwhile, Martinez's Argentina were named the World Team of the Year for their 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph in Qatar.

Both were present at the awards, where Eriksen sent message to club fans (via Manchester United's website):

“Hi United supporters, we just wanted to say hi. We had a good event for Laureus; we have our trophies and hope to get a lot of support for the last few games of the season so we can finish strong.”

Martinez added:

“Come on United!”

Eriksen has just returned from a knee injury that saw him miss three months of action. However, Martinez is set to miss the remainder of the season with a metatarsal fracture.

The Red Devils are in the FA Cup final, where they face Manchester City on June 3. Before that, their focus will be on claiming a top-four finish and sealing Champions League qualification. They will next be in action on Saturday (May 13) against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
