Premier League 2019-20: Top 10 most valuable players ranked

Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Virgil van Dijk all make the list
Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Virgil van Dijk all make the list

With today's market as inflated as it is, some of the price tags on these players are bound to make your jaw drop. You can expect some of the valuations in this list to rise even higher over the coming years, particularly for those players who are in their early twenties with ample time for development.

The Premier League has a wide range of players from all over the world, and they don't all play for the typical top six sides, either! You can find many players who some may regard as world-class playing for mid-table sides in the Premier League, which is a testament to just how competitive the division is.

That, along with the abundance of cash that gets pumped into the league, makes it one of the best in the world, especially for the neutral viewers. A side seemingly destined for the Championship could shock everyone and lose to a mid-table side, simply because every team in the division is capable of doing damage if given the opportunity.

Player valuations fluctuate every month depending on form and their importance to the club they play for, but as of writing, these are the top ten most valuable players in the Premier League.

#10 Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) - £90.0M

Manchester City v Liverpool - UEFA Champions League Quarter Final Second Leg
Manchester City v Liverpool - UEFA Champions League Quarter Final Second Leg

Many neutral footballing fans were taken aback when Liverpool splashed out £75M on Virgil van Dijk from Southampton. The centre-back was good, but he wasn't that good! Or so they thought...

Van Dijk has blossomed in the two years he's spent with Liverpool and is now widely regarded as one of the best, if not the best defender in the world. His sheer size and strength makes it difficult enough for an attacker to get past him, but when you take into consideration his surprising speed, you can begin to see why strikers detest coming up against him.

His £90M valuation is about right for a player of his calibre, but, of course, if a club wanted to buy him from Liverpool, you can expect his price tag to double before the Reds would even consider an offer.

#9 Leroy Sane (Manchester City) - £90.0M

Manchester City v Crystal Palace - Premier League
Manchester City v Crystal Palace - Premier League

Leroy Sane had only featured in one Premier League game for Manchester City this season before he was sidelined with a cruciate ligament rupture, but that didn't affect his valuation one bit. Everybody expects him to be just as good as he was before the injury, because he's simply such an exceptional talent.

Add to that the fact he's only 24, he has years of development ahead of him in which he can become even better, so that market value could easily surpass the £100M mark soon.

Sane joined Manchester City in 2016 for around £45M from Schalke, although his market value at the time was closer to £27M. In the almost four years since that move, Sane's valuation has risen by a whopping £63M! This just goes to show how highly-rated the winger is, and we can expect it to be rise even higher in the coming years.

Bayern Munich were interested in signing Sane last summer but were ultimately put off by the amount City asked for - you can imagine how astronomically high it was!

#8 N'Golo Kante (Chelsea) - £90.0M

Chelsea v Sunderland - Premier League
Chelsea v Sunderland - Premier League

N'Golo Kante's Premier League story is an incredible one. He joined Leicester in the summer of 2015 from SM Caen for just £8M and then miraculously went on to win the Premier League title with the Foxes!

It's safe to say that nobody really expected that to happen but Kante would prove any doubters wrong a second time following his £30M move to Chelsea the following summer; here, he won the Premier League title again, cementing himself as one of the Premier League's best midfielders.

Things got even better for Kante at the 2018 World Cup, where he would win the trophy with France. This caused his market value to skyrocket from around £72M at the start of the tournament to £90M by the end of it. His value has been the same ever since and will probably stay that way for a while.

Kante was linked with a move to Real Madrid and Barcelona in the summer, but neither club were willing, or possibly even able, to pay what Chelsea demanded for the French international.

#7 Bernardo Silva (Manchester City) - £90.0M

Manchester City v Burnley FC - Premier League
Manchester City v Burnley FC - Premier League

I don't think anybody really doubted just how much of a good player Bernardo Silva is, but what he's achieved with Manchester City in such a short space of time is phenomenal. His £90M valuation is reflected by his superb performances week in, week out; he shows such composure on the ball, you'd think that he's a player at his peak with bags of experience, but he's still just 25, with years ahead of him before he's due to slow down.

City will be pleased to see that he's now worth double the £45M they paid Monaco for him back in the summer of 2017 - not that they would be thinking of selling him, of course; he's far too crucial to the squad for that to happen anytime soon. In the 20 matches he's played for City this season, Silva has scored five and provided four assists.

If Manchester City can cling onto players like Bernado Silva for the next few years, then they could still stand a chance at beating Liverpool to the Premier League title; but as it stands, the Reds look to be unstoppable.

#6 Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - £99.0M

Watford FC v Liverpool FC - Premier League
Watford FC v Liverpool FC - Premier League

A year ago, Trent Alexander-Arnold had fully broken into the Liverpool first team and was cementing his position as right-back, valued at around £40M. A year on from then, he is one of Liverpool's best players and arguably one of the best right-backs in the world, which is reflected in his latest market valuation of £99M!

The Reds possess a real gem in 'TAA'. His performances for Liverpool have not only been superb in the league, but also in the Champions League - even against some of the best teams on the planet. His quick short corner against Barcelona caught their entire defence off guard and allowed Origi to knock in the equaliser, putting the Reds through to the next round on aggregate.

What he could go on to achieve is anyone's guess, but he's bound for greatness, we can all admit that much. If he can do what he's done at Anfield with England's national team, the World Cup could be coming home sooner than most fans think!

#5 Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) - £135.0M

West Ham United v Manchester City - Premier League
West Ham United v Manchester City - Premier League

And now we reach the point in this list where the market valuations are jaw-droppingly high. But having said that, I think most would agree that these final five players deserve such a high price tag - they're some of the world's best in their respective positions.

Kevin De Bruyne has been simply outstanding for Manchester City in recent seasons. Chelsea must be kicking themselves for not giving the Belgian enough of a chance when they had him as a young man from 2012 to 2014. He would join Wolfsburg for a mere £20M, proving to everybody that he was in fact an exceptional talent, before he earned a move to City worth around £65M.

Like with Bernardo Silva's rise in valuation, City will be pleased to see that De Bruyne is worth over double the amount they paid for him in 2015. De Bruyne has entered his peak years now at 28, so this is likely to be the highest price tag he'll have before it slowly begins to decrease. Still, he will probably be crucial to City's side for at least another couple of years.

#4 Harry Kane (Spurs) - £135.0M

Crystal Palace v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
Crystal Palace v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League

The Spurs hitman has gotten better and better with each passing year in the Premier League, but his Golden Boot-winning performance at the 2018 World Cup was what hiked his valuation up so high. He was still valued at a staggering £90M before the tournament, but that quickly rose to £110M once it was all over and he had finished as the top scorer.

Now, almost two years on, Kane's price tag is a mighty £135M! It's safe to say that if any team wanted to buy him from Tottenham, they would have to break the bank to even get close to a figure Spurs would deem reasonable enough to accept.

Kane is a generational talent who has proved time and time again that he's one of the best forwards in the world - and he's only going to get better.

Many neutrals have suggested that Kane would be far better off moving to a different club next summer to give himself a better chance at winning trophies. If a club does wish to buy him, though, I struggle to see how they could afford what Spurs would ask for.

#3 Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) - £135.0M

Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League

Mohamed Salah, like Kevin De Bruyne, is a player Chelsea will still regret having sold so soon after they bought him. The Blues sold Salah to Roma back in 2016 for £13M, only for Liverpool to sign him a year later for £35M. Many fans were surprised that the Reds had taken him in after he'd struggled so much in the Premier League before, but this time was very different.

Salah would go on to break the Premier League record for the most goals scored in a 38-game season, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo's feat of 31 goals, by scoring 32. Since then, he has developed and become even better than before, which few thought was even possible. Now, Salah is widely regarded as one of the best attacking players in the world.

I can't see him moving from Anfield to another team anytime soon, either. Liverpool are a side who have only recently won the Champions League, and are now set to win the Premier League title. So it's safe to say that they'll probably keep hold of their star player for another couple of years.

#2 Sadio Mane (Liverpool) - £135.0M

Liverpool FC v West Ham United - Premier League
Liverpool FC v West Ham United - Premier League

Sadio Mane is one of the many top talents Liverpool have signed from Southampton in the past few years. Mane stood out like a sore thumb among the medicore players at St Mary's stadium, so it would have been easy for scouts to identify him as a target. The Reds got there before anyone else, though, and paid almost £40M for him back in the summer of 2016 - what an investment that has turned out to be!

Sadio Mane, alongside Firmino and Salah, forms perhaps the world's most formidable front three in football, and so it's no wonder why Liverpool are doing as well as they are right now.

He currently holds the record for the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history with 2 minutes and 56 seconds (in a 6-1 victory against Aston Villa in the 2014/15 season).

It's unlikely that Mane's market valuation will rise any higher than it currenly is, mainly because of his age; this is usually the part in a footballer's career where their stamina, etc, begins to decline.

#1 Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) - £144.0M

Manchester City FC v AS Monaco - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: First Leg
Manchester City FC v AS Monaco - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: First Leg

And so it's official! Raheem Sterling is the most valuable player in the Premier League, with an almighty price tag of £144M! I think his consistently sublime performances for Manchester City over the years warrants such a high market value. There are few who can do it better.

To think Sterling is still only 25 years old is crazy, too! He's accomplished what most top flight footballers would dream of doing by the time their career ended, yet he's managed it before his career is even halfway through.

Sterling was another standout performer for England in the 2018 World Cup, and his performances saw his market value rise from £81M to £108M over the course of a few months.

I doubt any side could afford what City would ask for before they would accept an offer, so City fans can relax about Sterling's future. The only club he cold consider as an upwards move in England would be Liverpool, but given his tumultous past with the Reds, that's a very unrealistic prospect.
