Right-back - Achraf Hakimi

PSG signed Achraf Hakimi this summer for £54 million from Inter Milan this summer.

The Morocco international is regarded as one of the best right-backs in the game. Hakimi only played one season for Inter Milan, but was pivotal as Antonio Conte's side won the Serie A title. An attack-minded full-back, Hakimi is capable of operating as a left-back or further forward.

Highly creative, the 22-year-old made a goalscoring debut for his new club last weekend. The Ligue 1 giants have had issues with their full-backs in recent years, but Hakimi, on paper, looks like the perfect solution for their right-back troubles.

Centre-back - Marquinhos

Marquinhos did not start PSG's game against Strasbourg last weekend, with German centre-back Thilo Kehrer replacing him.

However, Marquinhos is PSG's most important defender, so manager Mauricio Pochettino will hope to have him as soon as possible. The Brazil international is the captain of the club, and when fully fit, he is one of the first names on the teamsheet.

The 27-year-old is physically dominant and technically gifted. Marquinhos in recent seasons has often played as a defensive midfielder, with success. Having said that, it is unlikely he will be given minutes in midfield this season, as his presence will be more needed at the back.

Centre-back - Presnel Kimpembe

Presnel Kimpembe is one of the few PSG academy graduates to have become an important cog in the first team.

With the French giants focussed on signing big names, their academy stars are often poached by other top European clubs. Kimpembe, however, has done well to become a starting quality centre-back for the Parisians, with the France international being a one-club man till now.

Kimpembe will compete with the experienced Sergio Ramos to partner Marquinhos in defence, unless Mauricio Pochettino decides to start with three centre-backs. It will be interesting to see how the 26-year-old will be used when Ramos is fit to start.

Left-back - Abdou Diallo

Abdou Diallo was the starting left-back against Strasbourg, and it is evident that an upgrade can be made in this position.

Juan Bernat continues to recover from a serious injury, while Layvin Kurzawa is reportedly set to leave PSG. Young Dutch defender Mitchel Bakker often played in that position last season, but has been sold to Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

Diallo, a centre-back, joined PSG from Borussia Dortmund in 2019. The 25-year-old has operated both as a left-back and centre-back for PSG, but has not been a consistent starter. While it is unlikely the club will sign a left-back this summer, it should be one of their main targets in the next transfer window.
