What’s the rumour?

As per reports emerging from the Evening Standard, N'Golo Kante is one of PSG's top transfer targets this summer. The midfielder, however, has no interest in a move to the French capital and would reportedly like to remain at Chelsea.

In case you didn't know...

Kante rose to stardom when Leicester City won the Premier League in 2016. The tough-tackling midfielder was a central figure in their dream season and provided cover for their attackers with his defensive work rate and tenacity. He was signed by Chelsea later that year and was again pivotal in their league success in 2017.

As a result of his excellent performances, he earned a starting position for the French national team as well and reached the finals of Euro 2016.

And if latest rumours are true, PSG have a serious interest in the 26-year-old and want to sign him this summer.

The heart of the matter

PSG's UEFA Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid has piled the pressure on the board as well as manager Unai Emery. The club were expected to make it through to the latter stages of the tournament and were unable to do so despite spending heavily last summer which saw them break the world transfer record when they signed Neymar from Barcelona.

Chelsea also have had a difficult season. They are a massive 25 points behind leaders Manchester City and are currently 5 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, and PSG could look to take advantage of the fact that Chelsea may find themselves without Champions League football next season.

Despite such a heavy interest from Paris, it is believed that Kante does not fancy a move back to France and would like to remain in England.

Rumour rating/probability - 6/10

There is little chance that this move may go through if the current scenario is concerned. Chelsea can still finish in the top four and are in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. They also have a chance to go through to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League when they face Barcelona in the second leg on Wednesday, after drawing the first leg 1-1 at Stamford Bridge. The player himself has little interest in a move as per the reports.

Author’s take

Kante has evolved into one of the world's best defensive midfielders in such a short span of time. He is an asset to any team and there is little chance that Chelsea will let go of the player easily. The player has a contract until 2021 and is reportedly valued at around £54.00 million. Even if PSG meet the valuation, it is very unlikely a move will materialize.
