Super Sunday: How the result will affect both Chelsea & United in the long run!

As the build-up unfolds, the Premier League stage will be set on fire this Sunday with the entire world casting its eyes on the titanic match. John Terry is in the eye of the storm as of now, whether he plays on Sunday or not, he surely will be the most talked about player off the pitch. With United being unsuccessful at the Bridge in the last decade, Chelsea will draw inspiration from that fact and will go all out against the defending champions. Meanwhile United will look to continue their impressive away form having notched up 26 points out of a possible 33 this season.

A Chelsea Win:

It should be a morale boosting win for AVB’s men which would mean they have continued to pour misery over The Red Devils at the Bridge yet again. It would then take them to 45 points which will be 4 points within Tottenham who play Liverpool the next day. Their ideal target was to win the title at the beginning of the season, now their realistic target will be to finish 3rd as the two Manchester clubs fight it out among each other for the title. The London side instead is in a four-way fight with Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle United to battle for a Champions League place. Fans will be hoping for Torres to find his mark, not just against United but for the remainder of the season as well. With Didier Drogba still unavailable with the AFCON, Fernando Torres has to make sure that he finds the net sooner than later. Chelsea next play Everton, Bolton, West Brom Albion, Stoke City before facing off against Manchester City and Spurs and hopefully want to pocket more than 15 points out of these 6 matches which will then build up a momentum to have a stranglehold over the 3rd spot. They are still in the FA cup competition and will try every bit to win their 7th title which will provide some sort of satisfaction come the end of season (the elusive Champions League title still remains their Holy Grail).

Anything less than a 3rd spot in the league may not be enough for the Blues by the end of the season, but one can understand that they are undergoing a state of transition under AVB who has invested heavily in young players and will look to build the squad around the young players before the next season begins. And yes, he just cannot take Mourinho off his mind, all thanks to the media.

AVB will be desperate for a win at home and thereby increasing Roman’s trust in him.

A United Win:

It will be a much needed win for the Reds, having swiftly bounced back from the FA Cup loss against Liverpool by winning against Stoke City. This win will ring a death knell to their local rivals who too have managed to win their respective games and currently lead United just by goal difference. With the massive injury problems gradually easing for the Gaffer, it will be the perfect timing for his side as they face Liverpool, Norwich City, Tottenham, West Brom, Wolves and Fulham and the players who return will look to be involved in these games. Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez too will want to shake off his ‘Second Season Syndrome’ by hitting top form after being plagued by injuries every now and then. Apart from the fixture at White Hart Lane, the other five are relatively easier and should win all of them during the title run-in. If it turns out that way, the match at Etihad Stadium on 27th of April could potentially turn out to be a title decider. United having a vast experience of know-how in such situations consisting of experienced players like Scholes, Giggs, Ferdinand and Rooney at their dispense, the result could tilt in their favour and hence the title.

Fergie will hopefully be all smiles by the end of the game and the season.

Being knocked out of the Champions League, FA Cup, and Carling Cup is too hard a fact to swallow, but using these failures as a blessing in disguise, United’s one and only aim will be to bring back the League title for a record 20th time. And for sure Sir Alex would not stop there; they will look to improve the squad by adding a player or two before the next season starts. And once again, Manchester will be red.
