Noobs, a commonly used term for newbies, refers to those who have just been introduced to the world of Fortnite. There's a signficant skill gap between noobs and seasoned players, but the former become more knowledgable with every match they play.

It is obvious that one will make mistakes when learning the game for the first time. However, noobs should always focus on improvement and cut out activities that render them vulnerable in-game. Below we have listed five things that cost Fortnite newbies their Victory Royales, more so in Battle Royale than in Zero Build.

Aiming poorly and 4 other things that only noobs do in Fortnite

5) Walk around in the open

Hiding in Fortnite might seem like a noob activity, but it actually isn't when done in moderation. In a battle royale game, it is wise to stay hidden and avoid enemies sometimes. Moving around in the open, on the other hand, is almost always a bad idea. Newbies often choose to roam around without caution and then fall victim to a veteran player's ambush.

Instead, one can move from shelter to shelter to avoid exposure. From moving in tall grass to hiding in a bush or a building, there are many ways in which one may move around stealthily. Crouching comes in very handy.

4) Harvest insufficient materials

Harvesting materials is essential for building, which happens to be a crucial part of the Battle Royale game mode. The late-game scenarios tip in favor of other teams if you are lacking enough mats. However, noobs can easily forget to harvest as they often treat it as an afterthought to fighting nearby players or looting.

Not only do seasoned players always harvest enough material, but they also know which variant to prioritize. Wood is easy to harvest for new players, but it is the weakest. Sadly, noobs tend to forget about metal and brick, which are both stronger than wood.

3) Aim poorly

Having a good aim can take a player far in Fortnite, but it takes time to develop this skill. Noobs, especially those who have never experienced the FPS genre, tend to aim quite poorly in the beginning. They tend to shoot in the general direction of other players and miss many shots one after the other, using up all their ammo.

Noobs should practice their aim rigorously if they want to become better at the game.

2) Build inappropriately

Building is what sets Fortnite apart from other battle royales. Many players have chosen to forsake it after the introduction of Zero Build, but it still makes the difference between life and death when it comes to the Battle Royale.

Noobs tend to immediately run away or look for nearby natural cover when they come under fire. They do not have the immediate instinct to build their cover instead.

Some of them panic and spam their build binds, as a result of which their structures are fairly week. For example, they build unprotected ramps that leave them open to being shot down or dying from fall damage. The same is true for boxing oneself in and not being able to make one's way out.

Seasoned players tend to be great builders and are hence compared to sweats.

1) Forget about the storm

The storm largely dictates how a particular game of Fortnite plays out. It determines where players go and how quickly they die, so keeping tabs on it is essential. Newbies tend to ignore the alarm sounds in the game that alert the lobby of the storm moving and the next circle being formed.

When searching for loot or battling enemies, noobs often get forget about their surroundings and the adverse effects of the storm. One can lose health and waste healing items, which often lead to an early exit from the match. Be sure to keep tabs on the storm at all times if you want to grow out of the noob status.
