The cross-play feature in Fortnite is part of why the game is so successful. Using this feature, players can compete or play with their friends across any platform that supports Fortnite.

Link your Epic Games account to the game, and the rest will be taken care of, meaning you and your friends can play and join the match irrespective of the platform they play on.

While on paper, cross-play has many advantages and sounds like a helpful feature, the community has started to dislike it and is slowly getting irritated with the feature.

The Fortnite community thinks cross-play is no longer helpful and is somewhat of a forced feature

The Fortnite cross-platform feature is compatible with most platforms out there, including Windows, Android, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 and 5 versions of the game.

The feature was released in September 2018 and was even the first game to have a full cross-play between mobile, PC, and all major consoles. This feature is undoubtedly a game-changer and has helped propel Fortnite to new heights.

However, the community has started to grow unhappy with the feature and the developers for not fixing the problem.

In a recent Reddit post, a user going by the name u/CandyBananaHammock shared a post titled "Tired of forced cross-play" and revealed how the cross-play feature in Fortnite is no longer fun. Since the feature can't be turned off, many think it is being forced on them by the developers. You can check out the post below.

The user even went on to say that cross-play now is nothing but "keyboard and mouse and with better ping," referring to how PC players have a fair advantage over, say, mobile or Switch players.

This is the bitter truth about cross-play, and the sort of trade-off one has to make. While it is undoubtedly fun to enjoy the game without any platform limitations and jump into the same lobby as other users, the community wants a separate lobby for different platforms.

This isn't new as in the past, several PC players have demanded that they only want to match up against other PC players. Many even ask Epic to develop different matchmaking techniques that sort them based on their platforms, thus allowing them to enjoy the game more.

However, this isn't as easy as it sounds, and Epic probably won't implement it. Nonetheless, the developers should find a way to make cross-play more beneficial rather than just another in-game feature.
