With the live event done and Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 a few hours away, the game has now gone into hibernation mode. Servers and playlists have been taken offline so the developers can start prepping things for the next phase of the storyline.

With pieces of the island from different realities coming together to form something new, this process will take some time. That said, players will have to be patient and wait for things to finish piecing together. Given that a "To Be Continued/Black Hole Screen" is on display, there will be an extended downtime.

What is an extended downtime in Fortnite?

Instead of a normal two-to-three hour server outage for normal updates, the game is taken offline for anywhere between 12 and 36 hours, depending on the situation. The developers use this time to check files and ensure that the update works as intended.

Given that this update is the start of a new beginning, everything needs to work perfectly. This leads up to the all-important question of when the servers will be back up for Chapter 4 Season 1.

Unlike the last major update (which had no conclusive timeline in place), this time around, there's more or less a concrete answer. Although it may not be exact, it does provide a timeline for the same.

When will Fortnite servers be up and running for Chapter 4 Season 1?

The extended downtime is expected to last for an estimated time of no more than 12 hours. However, this all depends on whether or not the update goes off without a hitch.

For those unaware, while it had previously been confirmed that Chapter 4 Season 1 would begin on Monday, December 5, the date has now been changed. With Epic Games trying to maximize traffic, players can expect the servers to be up and running by 5 or 6 am Eastern Time on December 4, Sunday.

If this timeline holds true, leaks should start appearing sometime around midnight on December 4, Eastern Time. However, this all depends on when the files are uploaded and how soon leakers/dataminers gain access to them.

As confirmed by Epic Games, the trailer for the next phase of the storyline will be showcased after the "Fracture" live event ends. It will premiere at 5 pm Eastern Time and has been titled "A New Beginning."

At this point in time, it's unclear if the trailer will pick up from where the live event left off or if it will provide more insight into the next phase of the storyline. Nevertheless, there will undoubtedly be a few surprises waiting in store for players.

With Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 being the next major phase of the storyline, Epic Games will pull out all the stops to impress fans and generate hype. That said, in just a few short hours, players will be hot-dropping onto the new island and claiming their first Victory Royale.
