The "Most Wanted" event in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 is perhaps the best thing to occur in-game this late in the current season. With the loot pool being shaken up, brand new mechanics have made gameplay far more interesting and busting into Vaults has brought back a feeling of nostalgia from Chapters 2 and 3.

While the process of breaking into the Vault is still pretty straightforward, newcomers might feel a bit lost in the process. With so many overlapping dynamics, grasping the basics might not be as easy as it seems for older players. With that being said, here's how to obtain a Keycard and open a Vault in Chapter 4 Season 1.

Getting a Keycard is going to take a lot of firepower, or at the very least, a few rockets. Essentially, Keycards can only be obtained from Cold Blooded Bosses, but they aren't alone when you encounter them.

There will be at least two Cold Blooded NPCs protecting the boss at all times. Furthermore, players will most likely have to deal with opponents looking to snag a Keycard as well. Nevertheless, getting one shouldn't be too difficult.

To start off, players will want to secure the area and eliminate all opponents in the process. Once done, they can then turn their attention towards the Cold Blooded NPCs. After thinning out the crowd, they can focus on the Cold Blooded Boss. Once the boss is defeated in combat, they will drop a Keycard.

After picking up a Keycard, players must next find an access terminal just outside the Vault. To open up the Vault, interact with this terminal after picking up the Keycard. Once you're in, feel free to loot everything that's in the room.

There should be two Heist Chests inside the Vault alongside a Rare Chest. The former will give Heisted Weapons, while the latter will drop high-tier items/weapons.

Ensure that you break the stacks of gold present within the Vault to collect Gold Bars. These can be used to buy items/weapons sold by Vending Machines located all across the island. They can also be used to purchase services from certain NPCs and hire them to fight alongside you in battle.

Depending on the area where players decide to go Vault-hunting, it shouldn't take too long to spot the Vault's entrance. The three locations on the island where a Vault can be opened are:

  • Shattered Slabs
  • Brutal Bastion
  • Faulty Splits

Based on personal experience, the Vault at Shattered Slabs is possibly the easiest of the three to open. There's plenty of high ground surrounding the POI, which can be used to create a killzone below. Once the area has been cleared of all opponents, players can eliminate the Cold Blooded NPCs/Boss and claim their prize.

Although there are a few obstacles that have to be overcome to open a Vault during a match, players are well-rewarded for their efforts. In addition to the XP gained by taking down Cold Blooded NPCs/Bosses, the loot that can be obtained inside the Vault is a game-changer.

The newly added Heisted weapons are extremely powerful and grant players a plethora of buffs. They can drastically shift the balance of power during an all-out gunfight. In addition to weapons, tactical and utility items can also be obtained by securing a Vault. So, is opening a Vault worth the trouble and risks involved? Yes.

For those playing in the Duos, Trios, or Squad modes, opening a Vault will allow all members to gear up to the maximum, which will have a profound effect on gameplay. That said, it may be troublesome for solo players to open a Vault, given the number of opponents that will have to be eliminated in the process.

Nevertheless, for those looking to increase their "Heat Level" during a match, this is one of the best ways to do so. Given the perks associated with higher levels of "Heat," it's well worth chasing notoriety.
