Tiger Woods' very own golf tournament, the 'Hero World' tournament, is near us! It takes place every year in December, though participating in the tournament is a challenge, as it only lets the best of the best in the game of golf or the current top 20-rank golf pros participate! Unlike many tournaments, the Hero World is catered for the betterment of different causes, and it's a charity/benefit event for the Tiger Woods Foundation. It's also a bit more than the rest, because even though it falls under the PGA Tour schedule, upon winning, the players aren't awarded any FedEx Cup points or official money, as this challenge still falls under an unofficial event.

This year, the Hero World Challenge is returning to Albany, Bahamas, from November 30th to December 3rd.

Hero World Challenge's History

The Hero World Tournament started way back in January 2000. The main motive behind Tiger Woods Hero World Challenge is purely philanthropic: to support and grow the TGR Foundation, the Bahamas Youth Foundation and The Tavistock Foundation.

In 1999, Tiger Woods, with the joint efforts of his father, Earl, established the Hero World Challenge to benefit the TGR Foundation. Today, the Hero World Challenge continues to raise funds for youth-focused charities and empower youth through education and scholarship.

The Hero World Challenge had humble beginnings; it started off as a small field event, with only sixteen players competing back in 1999. But over time, the event started getting recognition around the world, and in 2015, the challenge went global, moving to Albany, Bahamas, after being held on the West Coast and one year in Florida. It currently has over 18 players teeing off; they are the defending champion, the four most recent major winners, the 11 top players in the world and the two sponsor exemptions.

The previous winners of the tournaments are:

Hero World Challenge 2023 Course

The Hero World Challenge 2023 will be played at the Albany Golf Course in the Bahamas. The Albany Golf Course is an 18-hole championship golf course. The very famous Ernie Els designed it. Albany's 18-hole championship golf course is one of its kind because it combines the best of links and desert features. Ernie Els made sure it was unique by adding details like making the par-72, 7,309-yard golf course with five par-5s and five par-3s, with the remaining holes being par-4s. Albani's links-style course features dunes up to 30 feet tall and has numerous teeing areas on each hole, which makes the course playable but, at the same time, tricky for golfers at every level.
