LIV Golf Invitational Jeddah 2023

The first LIV Golf Invitational Series event began on June 9, 2022, at the Centurion Club near St Albans in Hertfordshire, UK. In 2023, the Invitational Series evolved into the LIV Golf League.

The 13th event in the league's 2023 schedule will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for the LIV Golf professionals. From Friday, October 13, through Sunday, October 15, the LIV Golf Jeddah event will be held at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia.

This 54-hole, no-cut event will be held at LIV Golf Jeddah, just like all prior Saudi-backed tournaments. The players will fight for a sum of $25 million, split among 12 teams. The teams will compete for $5 million, while the individual segment will have $20 million up for grabs.

LIV Golf Invitational Jeddah 2023 History

The term "LIV" stands for "forty-four," which is the score that would be obtained by birdieing every hole on a par-72 course, as well as the total number of holes that must be played at LIV tournaments.

The Saudi Arabian government wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund, is the source of funding for LIV Golf. According to several journalists and pundits, the tour is part of the Saudi monarchy's attempts to use sports to boost its public image. The monarchy has been under heat for corruption and violations of human rights.

Eight 54-hole no-cut stroke play tournaments were contested during the first season of the LIV Golf Invitational Series, and a final Team Championship—a "seeded four-day, four-round, match play knock-out" event—was scheduled to take place at Trump National Doral Miami in October 2022.

With the introduction of a league to be named the Premier Golf League in 2019, the preliminary structure for a new golf tour to rival the PGA Tour became public knowledge. In response, PGA Tour Commissioner, Jay Monahan made the suggestion that golfers who decide to play in a different league would not be allowed to compete in PGA Tour events.

The Premier Golf League had discussions regarding a financial collaboration with Saudi investors, but in 2020, Golf Saudi, a division of the Public Investment Fund, funded a new organization that had its own goal to create a global professional league, which was popularly called the "Super Golf League." As LIV Golf Investments, this organization was legally established in October 2021, with former professional golfer Greg Norman serving as CEO.

LIV Golf formally sought to be listed in the Official World Golf Ranking in July 2022. It normally takes one to two years from the time an application is submitted until it is approved and points are awarded by the OWGR.

LIV Golf and the MENA Tour formed a "strategic alliance" in October 2022. The plan was designed to give LIV Golf events ranking points right away; however, it was later announced that events in 2022 would not be awarded points since the MENA Tour would need to be revised.

It was announced in June 2022 that LIV Golf will change into a league system the following year, consisting of contracted players and a 14-event schedule. Norman revealed on July 27, 2022, that LIV Golf will be introducing a promotion and relegation system.

This system will comprise a rankings list and a four-player relegation from the contracted players. The league has $405 million in prize money. Its events are arranged so as to avoid clashing with international team events, major championships, and the PGA Tour's top events.

The PGA Tour and LIV Golf announced a merger in 2023.
