2018 Thailand Open Badminton

The Thailand Open badminton tournament is an open international championship held in Thailand since 1984. The tournament is organized by the Badminton Association of Thailand. 


The 2018 Thailand Open, officially known as Toyota Thailand Open 2018 is the thirteenth tournament of the 2018 BWF World Tour and also part of the Thailand Open championships. 


Venue 


The 2018 Thailand Open will be held at Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The stadium is an indoor sporting arena with a capacity of 5,600 spectators. The tournament will take place from 10 to 15 July 2018.


Prize Money 


The total prize money for this year's tournament is $350,000. Distribution of prize money will be in accordance with BWF regulations. 


The winners of the Singles category will get an amount of $26,250 while the finalists will get $13,300. For the Doubles category, the winners will get $27,650 while the finalists will get the same amount as that of the finalists of Singles category. 


Winners of 2017 Thailand Open


Sai Praneeth Bhamidipati of India is the defending champion of Men's Singles category whereas Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand is the defending champion of Women's Singles category. 


Berry Angriawan and Hardianto of Indonesia won the Men's Doubles title while Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu won the Women's Doubles title. 


Players to watch out for


The top eight seeds of all the categories will be the contenders to win in their respective categories but there are some players who will start the tournament as favourites and can turn the tides in their favour. 


Shi Yuqi and Chen Long of China and Srikanth Kidambi will be the favourites for the Men's Singles category. There will be a lot of expectations from last year's Women's Singles champion Ratchanok Intanon and the Indian duo of PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal.
