Vietnam Open Badminton 2018

The Vietnam Open is an international badminton tournament held in Vietnam since 1996 and is a part of the BWF Tour Super 100.


After inaugural tournament was held in 1996, the tournament was halted for eight years between 1998 and 2005, only to resume again in 2006. Since then, the tournament has been hosted regularly each year.


Venue and Details


The Vietnam Open is hosted at the Nguyen du Cultural Sports Club in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.


The tournament is organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Badminton Association and is sanctioned with the BWF.


The 2018 Vietnam Open has a total prize money of $750,000 and Yonex-Sunrise are the title sponsors of the event.


The tournament will be played between 7th and 12th August. It is the sixth BWF Super 100 event of 2018.


2017 Winners


The men’s singles event of the 2017 tournament was won by Khosit Phetpradab of Thailand. Japanese player Sayaka Takahashi was the winner of the women’s singles event. The Indonesian pairing of Wahyu Nayaka and Ade Yusuf won the men’s doubles whereas the women’s doubles was won by Chayanit Chaladchalam and Phantaimas Muenwong of Thailand. Alfian Eko and Melati Daeva won the mixed doubles event.


Seeding at 2018 Vietnam Open


Brazilian Ygor Coelho de Oliveira is the top draw for the men’s singles event of the 2018 Vietnam Open. Top seed of 2018 Russia Open Pablo Abian is seeded third. Runners-up of 2018 Russia Open Vladimir Malkov of Russia is the fourth seed.


Defending women’s single champion Sayaka Takahashi is the top seed for the women’s singles event followed by fellow Japanese Minatsu Mitani.


Prize Money


Each singles event winner of the 2018 Vietnam Open will receive a prize money of $5,625. On the other hand, the doubles event winners will receive $5,925.
