13-time PGA Tour winner Jason Day is fighting for his second major championship title at the ongoing 2025 US Open. During an interview at the tournament, he revealed that he is rooting for the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL.
In 2018, Day won the Farmers Insurance Open and the Wells Fargo Championship. He also won the PGA Championship in 2015 and the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson with 23-under 261. Notably, he has placed second in the US Open twice— in 2011 and 2013.
During the 2025 US Open, the Australian golfer was asked to mention his favorite NFL team, and he said:
“My favorite football team is the Cleveland Browns, even though they have a rivalry. My second favorite team is Pittsburgh, and I know I’m gonna get a lot of slack for that but I do have the Pittsburgh colors today, so I’ll just leave it at that.”
Famously dubbed the Turnpike Rivalry, the Browns-Steelers rivalry started as early as 1950 after the AAFC-NFL merger. The two teams compete in the AFC North and have faced each other in 146 meetings so far.
The Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers have also faced off in the playoffs three times, with the latter outperforming the former twice. The Browns won their first ever playoffs against the Steelers in 2023.
