Video: Germany and New Zealand progress in Hockey World League

Germany and New Zealand earn their places in the semi finals of the FIH Hockey World League on Tuesday (June 18) – with wins over Chile and Japan respectively.

Germany met 18th-ranked Chile in their FIH Hockey World League quarterfinal in Rotterdam on Tuesday.

And Germany’s Maike Stöckel opened the scoring with 14 minutes left in the first half.

Marie Mavers tucked away a penalty corner goal with three minutes left in the game to give Germany a 2-0 win, booking them a place in the semifinals.

New Zealand entered the tournament as the second-highest seeded team, but a second place finish in their preliminary round group pitted them against a dangerous Japanese side in their quarter final.

Japan took the lead after an own goal from Samantha Charlton.

Krystal Forgesson made it 1-1 before Anita Punt gave New Zealand their first lead of the game in the 54th minute.

Charlotte Harrison completed the win for the Kiwis with just under five minutes left in the game to give the ‘Black Sticks’ a 3-1 victory.
