The American open-wheel racing scene is dominated by IndyCar which is the premier racing series originating in America. IndyCar racing is often considered synonymous with Formula 1. IndyCar racing is characterised by screaming V6 turbocharged engines and different types of tracks. Unlike Formula 1 tracks, IndyCar tracks are oval, street circuits and conventional tracks. There are usually more number of racers in IndyCar as the series allows part-time competitors. Many drivers from other series try to compete in IndyCar.
The Indianapolis 500 is the flagship race of IndyCar and is known worldwide for its high-speed racing and competition. IndyCar cars produce nearly 700 hp of power which is able to produce high top speed on oval tracks. Alex Palou from Chip Ganassi Racing is the reigning IndyCar champion who won the series in 2024.
