IndyCar racing can be considered the true amalgamation of ovals and open-wheel racing. It is a sport which has the characteristics of both NASCAR and Formula 1. IndyCar racing competes with Formula 1 when it comes to the best in open-wheel racing. It also competes with NASCAR as one of the most popular and watched sports of the United States. IndyCar racing is known for combining speeds of 240 mph and various tracks to provide the most entertainment to its viewers. The most popular drivers of IndyCar are Scott Dixon, Alex Palou, A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti etc.

Alex Palou is the reigning IndyCar champion of the 2024 IndyCar season. IndyCars are known to have regulated chassis and engines for all cars. Dallara is the chassis supplier for all IndyCar teams and Chevy and Honda are the engine suppliers. IndyCars are built around strict regulations and the cars have to mandatorily follow them otherwise they will be disqualified. Weight is another important factor in IndyCar. The weight of the car is the deciding factor in results. An overweight car can slow down the car and an underweight car might as well be disqualified.

Weight of IndyCar

As per the official site of IndyCar, the weight of an IndyCar depends on the track it is racing on. The weight of the chassis in the case of road/street Courses- is 1,785 pounds; short ovals configuration- is 1,775 pounds; speedways configuration- is 1,635 pounds. The weight of the front tire is approximately 13.48 pounds and the weight of the rear tire is 14.7 pounds. The car is made up of Carbon fiber, Kevlar and other composites which keep the car’s weight minimum while taking care of the safety and structural integrity of the car. IndyCar states that the minimum weight of the engine needs to be at least 248 pounds. The official IndyCar site states that these figures are all approximate.
