11:55 PM IST: That brings us to the end our coverage from this IPL encounter between Delhi Capitals and the Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR have kept their hopes alive in the tournament with a hard fought win while DC have suffered a couple of consecutive defeats which have just derailed their campaign a bit. They need to pull their socks up and try to get back to winning ways. The IPL carnival continues tomorrow with Chennai Super Kings slated to host the Punjab Kings. Sunil Narine is the Player of the Match, here is what he had to say: I think it was a total team effort. The way Gurbaz started off and then Rinku got going towards the end. I still back myself to comeback and make a contribution for the team no matter what. I enjoyed all the wickets, all wickets is crucial. The entire spell, the entire bowling unit helped us win the game. I think obviously I am not the greatest fielder but felt good while inflicting the run run out. Threw at fast as I could. Pride is very important which keeps me going. Always want to give the captain and option at different times of the game. Even if there is no training, you have to keep up the hard work.

Ajinkya Rahane (Kolkata Knight Riders captain): Not bad, I will be okay. After 23 overs, when Sunil came to bowl, he got two wickets and then they lost four wickets. The score was good but I felt we were 15-20 runs short. Narine bowled brilliantly and Anukul Roy supported him with Russel chipping in as well. Wanted to back him, didn't want to look too far ahead. Yeah I mean that's been the talk when we haven't done well. It's about taking confidence from this game and moving forward. Narine has been a champion bowler over the years. I am so lucky to have Narine and Varun as I can go to them whenever required. Narine is working hard on his batting, really happy for him. Dre is working hard on his bowling, he has been bowling good yorkers. He has been fantastic for us, whenever he has bowled for us this season, he has picked wickets.

Birthday boy Andre Russell says "I asked the guys in the team meeting that all I want for my birthday is a win. I am here in the IPL, the greatest league in the world. They scheduled a game on my birthday and we won it. So, happy day. We had just one plan. I said I am going to bowl 6 yorkers. I might not execute all. But that's the plan. Once you are clear in your head, it is all that matters. I executed maybe three or four. But it worked out. We have been struggling. We have not clicked as a batting unit. We still get to good totals if three out of the seven batters have a good night. I still back the boys. WE just have to try and execute and not think of the result too much. Narine bringing himself back was crucial. The wickets he got were big wickets. That's where all of us started to believe. We handled ourselves well tonight. It goes to show that we have a good unit. Once we get 200, we can defend it. A lot of guys misjudge Sunil Narine. He comes across as a quiet individual, but on the field he is a leader."

Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals captain): "I think the kind of wicket this was, we gave away 15-20 runs more in the powerplay. In the chase, our calculations were off. A couple of soft dismissals pegged us back. The way we pulled things back after the powerplay with the ball was a positive. We need to stay a bit calmer in the middle. It was about two or three big hits. Vipraj was making runs. He bowled well and batted well too. If Ashutosh had stayed it would have reminded me of the first game. When I dived, my hand dragged over the pitch. My skin got peeled off. Every time the bat handle brushed it, it pained a lot. But we have three-four days before the next game. So, hopefully I will be alright."

It turned out to be a great comeback with the ball from the Kolkata Knight Riders but they were given a serious headache by Vipraj Nigam towards the end but eventually, DC just couldn't quite get over the finish line with KKR getting over the line by 14 runs. Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy, the two mystery spinner from KKR turned the game on its head with some stunning overs, helping KKR made a stunning comeback and still keeping their hopes alive in the tournament.

Four wins from the next four games might still see them make it to the playoffs and have a crack at defending their title. The target of 205 was never going to be a straightforward one for DC and the early wicket of Abishek Porel put them in a bit of pressure. Anukul Roy who was playing his first match this season took the wicket. Faf du Plessis looked in good touch and played some impressive shots during the powerplay while Karun Nair also got underway with a couple of boundaries.

Nair was trapped in front of the stumps by Vaibhav Arora but the game changer was the wicket of KL Rahul when he failed to make his crease. Sunil Narine hit the bullseye and at 60/3, DC was staring down the barrel. Despite a finger injury, Axar Patel came into bat next and never looked like he was in pain, despite showing discomfort after hitting the shots. Faf also controlled the game nicely at the other end and batted beautifully while Axar took the chances at the other end.

The 76-run partnership came at a crucial time but it was the departure of Axar which cracked the game open in the 14th over. Sunil Narine sent back Axar and then castled Tristan Stubbs with a beauty on the final delivery of that same over. Narine again made his presence felt in his very next over, this time dismissing the set batter Faf du Plessis which was perhaps the final nail in the coffin.

Ashutosh and Vipraj Nigam struck some solid blows but this time it was Varun Chakaravarthy who took the onus on himself to get the wickets in the 18th over. Back-to-back wickets again brought KKR back on top but Vipraj Nigam ignited the hopes of DC with some stunning hitting. He was eventually dismissed for 38 off 19 deliveries in the final over with KKR winning by 14 runs.

And the defending champions stay alive! What a fantastic comeback with the ball to pocket a crucial win that keeps their hopes alive for the season. And in incredible circumstances with Sunil Narine stepping in as captain and showing the way himself. KKR prevail by 14 runs!
