That's all from this series opener. England will be keen to establish parity at Lord's. This is Dwaipayan Mukherjee, signing off alongside Darpan Tikiya. We will see you soon!
Temba Bavuma (South Africa Captain) : Very important to start well. It was something we spoke about as a team and build on the momentum that we got from Australia. We were clinical, they did put us under a bit of pressure in the power play but Keshav showed his class again and we did not falter with the bat but it doesn't take anything away from what we had done earlier in the game. Fielding was great, the ball does fly around here but the effort was there. We must keep pushing our standards up and it is a quick turn around. Lord's will be different on Thursday and our focus is to turn up and put another impressive performance.
Harry Brook (England Captain) : Not ideal. Not a great start to the series. But we would want to move as soon as possible. Everybody will put their hands up and say that we did not have a good outing apart from one of our batters. It held into the pitch a bit more than what we would have thought. Hopefully, we would have bowled as well as they did. Our plan is to go out there and bang it around and then take wickets. Sonny Baker got a bit of a tap at the start but it was good to see that he still bowled with full heart. It was a bit of a practice match for us at the end because we knew that the game was already gone.
Keshav Maharaj is the Player of the Match. He says, "I though it was a pretty good wicket. There was a little bit in it and our bowlers utilised it really well. We know that England play really well in their conditions. But we came prepared. I've looked at the best in the world and make minor changes to my game, good to see it pay off. We're in a wonderful place, still in transition, but players putting hands up in every game."
5:12 PM local time, 9:42 PM IST | South Africa (137 for 3) defeat England (131 all out) by 7 wickets
Aiden Markram - 86 (55) | Adil Rashid - 3/21 Ryan Rickelton - 35* (60) | Jofra Archer - 0/8
Dewald Brevis showcases his muscles with a mammoth six to complete the one-sided chase! 132 was never going to be enough and any chances for a comeback in the game by the home side were quashed by the early charge made by Aiden Markram against the raw pace of Sonny Baker. The debutant conceded 34 runs from his opening couple of overs against the right handed Protea opener but Harry Brook persisted with him in hope that he might be able to do better against the left handed Ryan Rickelton. But similar to how the rest of the action unfolded for England in this game, the gamble did not pay off.
The opening stand brought up their half century partnership within the first half of the 6th over. Aiden Markram absolutely enjoyed the pace and trajectory of the skiddy Sonny Baker. This has been a harsh introduction to international cricket for the 22 year old. The silver lining will be that it can only get better for his career from this point, also considering his first ball duck earlier in the game. It was a breathtaking half-century by Markram off 23 balls. It was the fastest by a South African opener in this format and it had come within 7 overs of the chase, replete with 8 fours and a couple of sixes.
Rickelton, on the other end, had not even reached double digits when the 50 milestone had come up for his opening partner. Sonny Baker was finally removed from the firing line after conceding 56 runs from his first 4 overs. After the end of 8 overs, both openers had faced an equal number of balls (24) - Markram was striking at more than 200 while Rickelton found the going slightly tougher against the skilful Jofra Archer, who only conceded half a dozen runs in his first 4 overs.
By the time the powerplay was done, the visitors were already halfway through the chase in terms of runs required. As the field restrictions eased out, so did the attacking nature of the chase. The opening pair were more than happy to play as per the merit of the balls being sent their way and it was largely innocuous. England were bereft of ideas on how to make inroads into their opposition batting line-up. Sonny Baker returned for a 2nd spell later but the runs continued to flow as Markram adopted brutal and dismissive selection of shots to bring up the century stand for the opening pair within the 16th over, as the shoulders of most English fielders began to drop.
Whether it was about driving through the off side or quickly reading the length and staying back to swat it through the leg side, this was a proper batting masterclass by Aiden Markram. The 121 run stand came to an end owing to an excellent one handed blinder by Jamie Smith which paved the way back for Markram - but not before he had put up 86 runs from only 55 balls, putting this chase to bed. At scores level, Adil Rashid picked up a couple of more wickets as Bavuma and Stubbs failed to apply finishing touches to the match.
20.5 Adil Rashid to Dewald Brevis, NO-LOOK SIX! A Dewald Brevis special to finish it off. South Africa have thumped England in the first ODI. Flighted ball that landed "in the slot", in front of the stumps. Brevis slammed it over the straight boundary for a biggie.
20.4 Adil Rashid to Dewald Brevis, anti-climatic. Flighted ball that seems to have taken an age to arrive. Brevis stood with open shoulders, looking to set up for a big shot. But the slowness of it made him rethink. Ends ip warding it off towards point.
Dewald Brevis batting at 5th position
Tristan Stubbs has been dismissed for 0 runs off 1 balls
20.3 Adil Rashid to Tristan Stubbs, BOWLED! Rashid has two in two. The loudest cheer erupts from the half-empty stands. Stubbs had pre-decided on the reverse sweep. The bowler delivered the googly. The batter missed and the ball clattered into the middle pole. Rashid, will now be on a hat-trick.
Tristan Stubbs batting at 4th position
Temba Bavuma has been dismissed for 6 runs off 9 balls
20.2 Adil Rashid to Temba Bavuma, OUT! Bavuma falls with the team on the doorstep of victory. He shakes his head in disappointment as he trudges off the park. Tossed up ball, not too far from the off peg. The batter wanted to chip it over wide mid-off, but could not clear Will Jacks stationed there. The fielder moved a few steps to his left to get underneath the high ball and gobbled it.
20.1 Adil Rashid to Temba Bavuma, good length delivery outside off. Slashed to cover. No run.
20 overs are done. Scores are level. This has been a one-sided affair!

19.6 Brydon Carse to Temba Bavuma, good length, sliding in at the pads. Clinical glance towards deep square leg gets Bavuma a run. Scores level.
19.5 Brydon Carse to Ryan Rickelton, full ball speared in at the off peg. Rickelton drove it towards extra cover and Brook chased it down, before diving over the ball and flicking it away from the cushions to save two runs.
19.4 Brydon Carse to Temba Bavuma, good length delivery from over the wicket, outside off. Patted away to deep point for a comfortable single.
19.3 Brydon Carse to Ryan Rickelton, attempted yorker, tails in a long way to land on the boot. Carse's appeal for LBW falls on deaf ears as the batters run across while the ball trickles towards fine leg.
