10:10 PM local time and IST: That will be all from the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo for tonight. A no-result today, but the whether in Vizag seems to be good tomorrow. It will be Australia Women taking on Bangladesh Women there, in Match 17. The first ball will be bowled at 3:00 PM local time and IST. For now, this is the pair of Karthik Raj and Bidipto taking your leave. Keep following Sportskeeda!
Fatima Sana (Pakistan Captain): "Showed we can beat them but the conditions were not in our favour. They are well aware of the conditions. We knew that these conditions are helpful for the pacers. Definitely, I saw lot of performances on these tracks. I know these pitches help the fast bowlers, so tried to just bowl good length. Would have been good if we had won the match. Today, Muneeba (Ali) and Omaima (Sohail) played very well. The conditions were wet, so it helped them. I think the last couple of matches, we did well with our bowling. We need to improve our batting. Hopefully, we will execute better plans with our batting."
Nat Sciver-Brunt (England Captain): "Pakistan bowled brilliantly. Diana and Fatima up front. Made it really difficult for us to get into the game. After the rain break, Charlie (Dean) and (Em) Arlott did really well to get us to a total. Adapting as quick as possible. There was a lot of movement. After we got out of the Powerplay, wickets continued to fall with their bowlers targeting the stumps and the pads. Everyone is practicing very well. They are going through their processes. It is about putting that practice into the game. We are going to a different ground now (Indore), have to assess the conditions there."
10:03 PM local time and IST: No result. Points shared.
Charlotte Dean - 33 (51) and 0/0 (1) Omaima Sohail 19* (18) | Sana Fatima - 4/27 (6)
Both teams knew what was on the cards, but it was the batting team which began according to that requirement. In a 6-over power play, they managed to score 33 runs in the first 5 overs. But after 6.4 overs, rain made a reappearance and this time, to have the final say!
England got only one over right, maybe two at best. But by and large, they were all over the place, and a bit unsure as to whether to look for wickets or keep the runs in check. But just when the situation looked gloomy for them, the second rain delay came to their aid.
With this, England go top of the table with 7 points from 4 matches. Their opponents are yet to get a win, but have picked up their first point in the tournament, after as many games.
10:00 PM local time and IST: Due to the rain and shortage of time, there will be no result in this game. Points have been shared between the teams.
Vinod Kokal: "Will be cancelled." Yes that's what it looks like in all likelihood, Vinod.
09:55 PM local time and IST: Unfortunately, the rain has got heavier and the inevitable is on the cards here.
9:46 PM local time and IST: The cut-off time is 10:14 PM local time and IST. So, just under 30 minutes from now. The rain has to stop in 15 minutes at the maximum. Should the match get reduced to 20 overs, the target will be 79.
Athhar Shafi: "Who are ahead right now ( DLS)? Will the match be abandoned if it stops here?" Yes, the match will have no result if it stops at this stage. That is because 20 overs have to bowled if the runs don't get chased down before that.
9:41 PM local time and IST: The rain now is pretty heavy. What this will do, is make matters more complicated for the ground staff to do the mopping-up work, on time.
9:36 PM local time and IST: One thing is for sure friends, we will lose more overs straightaway. As they do here at the Premadasa, the entire ground is getting covered.
9:33 PM local time and IST: It is not a downpour by any means, but, the rain is not all to light for play to continue. The England camp is not all too unhappy and we know why! We need 20 overs to constitute a game, should the runs not get chased down before that.
The ground staff is getting ready with the covers. Well, the rain is getting heavier and so, the umpires have called for those covers to come on!
Good save by Smith to her right!
6.4 Emily Arlott to Muneeba Ali, short of a length and angling across off, Muneeba cuts it to the right of backward point where Linsey Smith dives to make a good stop. No run.
There are a few drops of rain falling.
6.3 Emily Arlott to Muneeba Ali, full on the leg-stump, Muneeba hangs back and defends it to short mid-wicket. No run.
6.2 Emily Arlott to Muneeba Ali, length delivery angling away, Muneeba comes forward to defend while she gets an inside-edge onto the pad. No run.
6.1 Emily Arlott to Omaima Sohail, length delivery angling down leg from over the wicket, Omaima glances it to long-leg. Single taken.
A maiden over to end the power play! Dean got the ball to grip and bowled with a lot of control. She has to bowl out, if need be. Because of that control.
