Mumbai Indians win by 48 runs!

Mumbai Indians began the game in slightly shaky fashion as they lost the likes of de Kock and Yadav in the Power Play. However, Rohit Sharma ensured that they never lost momentum throughout the innings as he continued finding the fence, even as Ishan Kishan struggled for any sort of rhythm at the other end. Once the latter departed, Kieron Pollard found his groove and was particularly severe towards the end, with Hardik Pandya giving him company. To put things into perspective, the pair combined for a 67-run partnership that just came off 23 deliveries. In turn, that also effectively batted KXIP out of the contest, considering that the pitch had already started slowing up by then.

KXIP though, began the chase in rollicking fashion, with the openers ransacking more than 30 runs in the first three overs. However, once Mayank fell, they failed to generate a head of steam, meaning that even batsmen like KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran got bogged down before perishing. And, their endeavors were not aided by Glenn Maxwell's struggles, who scratched his way to 11 off 18 balls.

In hindsight, KXIP might also contemplate their decision to insert Mumbai Indians at the outset, especially considering how the pitch lost pace gradually throughout the contest. KL Rahul might have based his decision on dew arriving but even that didn't help, meaning that they ultimately stuttered and stumbled to their third loss in the competition. KXIP have plenty to work on and they might also look at their team combination moving ahead. As for Mumbai, they would be thrilled with the professionalism in their victory and would want to produce more of the same come the weekend!
Over: 20 | Summary: 1 0 4 2 0 1 Bowler: Jasprit Bumrah Score: 143/8
19.6 Jasprit Bumrah to Krishnappa Gowtham, another excellent yorker on the stumps, Gowtham moves away and cuts it to point. Mumbai Indians have won by 48 runs!
19.5 Jasprit Bumrah to Krishnappa Gowtham, an excellent yorker around the off-stump, Gowtham couldn't get bat to it.
19.4 Jasprit Bumrah to Krishnappa Gowtham, full-length ball outside off, moves across and scoops to deep fine leg and they take two runs.
19.3 Jasprit Bumrah to Krishnappa Gowtham, short ball angling into Gowtham, He just sways away a bit and guides it to the third man area for a boundary.
19.2 Jasprit Bumrah to Krishnappa Gowtham, full toss on the leg-stump, moves away a bit and hits straight to Rohit Sharma at covers.
19.1 Jasprit Bumrah to Mohammed Shami, back of a length ball, nudges it to fine leg and takes a single.
Finally, Gowtham gets some runs off his bat and that might help KXIP reduce the NRR deficit. As far as the contest is concerned though, it just delays the inevitable. Mumbai Indians have been on top for much of the game and deservedly go into the last over as winners!
Over: 19 | Summary: 0 1 W 1 4 6 Bowler: Trent Boult Score: 135/8
18.6 Trent Boult to Krishnappa Gowtham, full-length ball, the batsman has driven it beautifully straight down the ground, The ball just flies above Pollard for a six.
18.5 Trent Boult to Krishnappa Gowtham, wide and short outside off, the batsman reaches to hit and hits it to the third-man area for a boundary.
18.4 Trent Boult to Mohammed Shami, full-length just outside the leg-stump, Shami plays it to the leg-side as the ball drops in-front of him and scampers for a single.
18.3 Trent Boult to Ravi Bishnoi, full-length ball on the stumps, Bishnoi comes down the track and smashes it straight to the fielder at point. Suryakumar is not going to miss that one! No celebrations at all from those in blue! Talk about an anti climactic end!
18.2 Trent Boult to Krishnappa Gowtham, fuller outside off, backs away and smashes it to the cow corner and Pollard collects it and throws quickly!
18.1 Trent Boult to Krishnappa Gowtham, full-length ball outside off, Gowtham moves across to launch it to the legside but misses it. Right then! Barring any extras, the total is mathematically out of KXIP's reach now!
Another over that yields a wicket for Mumbai Indians. Kings XI Punjab are just going through the paces now and would do well if they could reduce the margin of victory and not let their NRR drop too much. However, even that seems pretty difficult at the moment!
