It's games like these which cause an impact to a team's fortunes in a tournament. The Mumbai Indians, known for coming from behind and sneaking into the final four, just had a game that'd provide them with the impetus to do it all over again. It's a case of so near, yet so far for Ashutosh Sharma and the Punjab Kings yet again - they've lacked that ability to win the bigger moments and land the knockout blow. The fact that they took the game this deep would hurt them even more.

Jasprit Bumrah has been adjudged Player Of The Match! Here's what he has to say: This was a close game, much closer than what we thought. Very happy that we could close it off in the end. You want to make an impact with that new ball, because in this format, the ball does swing more in the first two overs. I want to bowl more, I play Test cricket. That is why, all my desires of bowling long gets over quickly. You do want to make an impact. When the opportunity persists, I'm happy to make an impact. This format is a little difficult for the bowlers - the batsmanship is going over, with the time-restrictions, and the impact-rule - that has not helped the bowlers too much. The batting line-up becomes deeper. But all of those things are not in your control, you can try your best to your ability and back yourself in the situation. I do relay the message to the other bowlers from wherever I am, sometimes in the heat of the moment it is difficult to pass on the message. But I'm always there if anybody needs help. You don't want to give too many messages when the bowler's under pressure.

Hardik Pandya, Mumbai Indians captain: A very good game of cricket. Everyone's nerve was tested. The characters were going to be checked this game, and that was what happened. (At 14/4) It's natural that you think you're ahead, but the IPL has tendency to produce games where the opposition can make a comeback. This was exactly like that. The way the two batters batted for them was fantastic. (On Ashutosh Sharma) Unbelievable! Playing like that, hitting every ball off the middle and at ease like that, knowing the fact what he wants to do... very happy for him. We spoke at the time-out that it does not matter how good we look, we'll make sure we'll keep scrapping and fighting in this game. Lot of areas in the bowling we can look and say we can't give those soft balls. We were quite soft in certain departments and overs, and that kind of cost us to go this far. Nevertheless, a win is a win.

Time for presentations...

Gerald Coetzee: What a game in the end. We started really well. We thought we had it and then they came back. It was a seesaw battle. As it hit the ground it spun and I was always willing to stop it anyway possible. Had to get my body around that.It's incredible, the fan experience in incredible in IPL. Don't know how to express to be honest. Completely different from whatever we have experienced earlier. Built on is the answer behind the spell I bowled today.

Sam Curran (Punjab Kings captain): another close one. This team loves close games but unfortunately another loss. What a knock from Ashutosh. Obviously gutted but happy to get that close from the situation we were in. I think there is no question that we lost early wickets throughout the tournament. Pretty special from some of the younger guys in the middle order. Yeah I think it's the incredible confidence they have in their own game. Hopefully we can win the next few close games. It's been a roller coaster, winning a game and then two last over finishes. I have still belief in the team to turn it around. We will go back to the drawing board tomorrow and analyse on what we could do better.

A proper roller-coaster ride was what this run-chase was! The Mumbai Indians seemed to have done just about enough to wrap the game up - Gerald Coetzee and Jasprit Bumrah combined to account for four Punjab Kings batters halfway into the powerplay. and there seemed no way back for the hosts after that. However, the Punjab Kings had batting depth - lots of it - and that meant they still had what it took to be in the game.

Once again, it was the duo of Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma who rose to the challenge emphatically. The duo went on the counter upon the first opportunity - while Shashank Singh soaked in all the pressure post the powerplay, played himself in and went after the bowling, Ashutosh had the luxury of teeing off right away. Ashutosh kept going after Shashank's departure, excited one and all with some truly audacious, awe-striking hitting, but with three overs remaining, his wicket proved to be a turning point.

Coetzee and Bumrah steamed in with immense pace initially, rushed Prabhsimran, Rossouw, Curran and Livingstone with them, and the Punjab Kings were in a soup at 21 for four. Harpreet Bhatia and Shashank Singh had a hard time playing out the rest of the powerplay - the duo managed to steady the ship eventually, but just as he played himself in, Harpreet chipped one back to Shreyas Gopal, and the Mumbai Indians had half the Kings' line-up in the bag.

Shashank Singh took Gopal on the next over, smashing a couple of sixes. The game swung back in MI's favour the next over once Jitesh Sharma missed a low full toss off Madhwal and was caught in front. However, that brought in Ashutosh Sharma, and what followed was simply magical. Ashutosh proceeded to produce a display of the finest striking of the cricket ball, not shying away from taking the best of the MI lot. His sweep for six off Bumrah in the 13th over will be a major talking point in the days to come!

Ashutosh, with some help from Harpreet Brar later, almost brought the equation down to a run-a-ball, but once he holed out off Gerald Coetzee, the game swayed away from the Kings' grasp. Rabada then kept the Kings in the hunt with a blow in the penultimate over to keep the Kings in the hunt, but an ill-advised second run

There was no need for that second run - Rabada hangs his head as the Mumbai Indians triumph eventually! Top-class return from Nabi in the deep - right next to the stumps on the bounce, and Kishan completed his job quickly enough!

19.1 Akash Madhwal to Kagiso Rabada, WICKET! This might well be end of the game and yes it is. That was an attempted yorker again outside off, Rabada moves across off and digs it out towards the deep cover-point region. Exceptional outfielding from Mohammad Nabi, Ishan picks it up cleanly and whips off the stumps with Rabada inches away from his crease. Mumbai Indians win by 9 runs.
