And that is that! 70 league games and then there were four - Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The first two teams will clash in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday (May 24) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata with the winner getting a direct entry into the summit clash. But that's for Tuesday - the Women's T20 Challenge gets underway tomorrow as Smriti Mandhana's Trailblazers lock horns with Harmanpreet Kaur's Supernovas at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Do join us for our coverage of the same while keeping yourselves up to date with all the other cricketing news and action from across the globe here on Sportskeeda. Thank you so much for tuning in tonight - on behalf of my good friend and co-commentator Pradeep Somashekar, this is Sooryanarayanan Sesha once again reminding you to mask up and get vaccinated in case you haven't already. Good night, take care and here's to a great week ahead!
A fine spell from Harpreet Brar and a fine performance from the Punjab Kings as the curtains come down on their campaign. Plenty of positives but areas to work out as well - should they polish out the rough edges, they can be real contenders come the 2023 season. Much the same for the Sunrisers Hyderabad who've blown hot and cold like any team ever has in the history of the league. Feast or famine - an apt summary of their campaign, but they've had their fair share of positives as well in the form of Umran Malik and Abhishek Sharma to name a few.
Harpreet Brar is the Player of the Match for his superb spell of 3/26 from 4 overs.

Hear from the man himself: When I came to the ground I saw the wicket was supportive to spinners. Spinners have been hit for a lot of runs at this venue, especially finger spinners. The plan was to do well and finish the last game on a high. I was just thinking of bowling in the right areas and doing well under pressure. I wanted to keep myself calm under pressure and focus on my line. That (the Markram wicket) felt really good since that ball spun and bounced. I observed that he was playing very little on the front foot and more on the back foot. It was easier playing on the back foot on this wicket so when you get a wicket like that it feels good. I'm very happy for him (Arshdeep) since he's got an opportunity to represent his country. This is why we started playing cricket - to make the country proud one day. It's been a long time since I've spent time with my family so I'm looking forward to that.
Mayank Agarwal (Punjab Kings Captain): It's going to be sore (on the rib). Probably going to go for an X-ray now. It's going to be sore for a while. Didn't expect a no ball and Bhuvi got run out. (What did he tell Umran Malik when the latter walked out to bat?) I just asked him if he was ready with his protective gear in case he forgot something in a hurry. (Takeaways this season?) There are a lot of positives for us. The way Livingstone has batted, the brand of cricket we've played; Shikhar has been consistent through the year, Arsh (Arshdeep) - the way he's put his hand up; Jonny since he's opened the batting and Harpreet as well. The kind of cricket we play there are going to be times where it won't come off and it'll look bad but understanding it is important. If we back ourselves we are going to do well next season. (Lessons learnt) We couldn't stitch two back-to-back wins - that's something we've spoken about. As a batting unit we've lost wickets in a cluster. Apart from that we've been a very positive unit. We've played an aggressive brand of cricket and that's what we'll look to do. (What will be said in the dressing room as the campaign comes to a close?) We're going to sit and discuss a lot of it after the IPL but the message was clear for this game. We were here meaning business and wanted to get the two points.
Liam Livingstone (Punjab Kings): Was nice to hit the 1000th six, it's the way we've played and we got the balance right today, it was nice to finish with a win. Pretty much, I try to take on the match ups, today it was Washi and Umran, I tried to take them on, they probably knew that too as well. Tried to play the left-armers with a bit of respect, trying to make sure you go all guns blazing against the others. It's all about learning, keep trying better at things like that. Been aware of the game situation, it's not about going all guns blazing all the time, we were placed well, you got to work out your game and when the right time to go, when your match up comes on and you got to go, that's the way I've played my game last couple of years and hopefully I can keep improving on it. Wanted to prove to a lot of people, I heard a lot of comments from the last year's IPL, it's always nice to prove some people wrong, it's all about gaining the experience, trying to be a better player. I want to go back to England and try and use this experience. I love to bowl, it doesn't come naturally to me, I enjoy the challenge of it and would've loved to bowl more, thanks to Mayank and Anil for letting me bowl some overs, the way you want to affect the game in all three departments, I feel like I can do that, it's nice to contribute as well.
Bhuvaneshwar Kumar(Captain, Sunrisers Hyderabad): It was a good feeling captaining the side, would've been better had we gotten over the line. I wouldn't say we were few runs short, they chased it down with many overs to spare, we could've held on to some of the catches, the story would've been different. The fielding was not up to the mark at all, needed to take those catches, it's the last game of the season, time for us to go back and reflect on some of the things. First half was brilliant, we won five games straight, the second half is where things went wrong for us, we lost all the matches, in the second half we didn't come good in both the departments, something that we need to work on for the next season. Many positives, Umran Malik is one of them, the starts that Abhishek Sharma gave up top and then Tripathi in those middle overs, if you look at historically, we never had a good middle order but this season we were decent with Markram and Pooran. Burning desire is there, cricket is my passion, till I feel I have it in me, I'll keep playing.
Punjab Kings 160/5 (15.1) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 157/8 (20) by 5 wickets.
Liam Livingstone 49* (22) | Shikhar Dhawan 39 (32) | Fazalhaq Farooqi 2/32 (4)
Abhishek Sharma 43 (32) | Romario Shepherd 26* (15) | Harpreet Brar 3/26 (4)

And the curtains come down on the league phase of IPL 2022. It was a dead rubber but it wasn't short of action. In the end though, the Punjab Kings have simply annihilated the Sunrisers Hyderabad to finish their campaign on a high.

Defending 157 was never going to be easy for SRH, more so when a certain Jonny Bairstow was to come hammer and tongs in the Powerplay. He was handed a lifeline as well, although Fazalhaq Farooqi rendered that moot and pinned his off-stump to the mat. Shahrukh Khan was handed a promotion and he kept the intent going as the Kings racked up 62 in the first six overs.

Umran Malik celebrated his maiden national call-up with the wicket of Shahrukh and sent down a brutal delivery that pinged Mayank Agarwal on his ribs. A wincing Punjab skipper holed out the very next over, bringing some life into the contest...

At least that's what we thought, because Liam Livingstone rendered any contest null and void. The Englishman began in grand fashion as he deposited a Washington Sundar long hop over the fence and continued batting like there was no tomorrow. Shikhar Dhawan continued to go steady at the other end and the Kings continued to waltz towards the finish line.

Dhawan was castled and Jitesh Sharma departed after a couple of lusty hits. It was all but a case of too little, too late though for SRH as Livingstone ensured the job was done. Fittingly he scored the 1000th maximum of the tournament - a first in 15 seasons of the IPL - and all those dropped catches and misfields from the Sunrisers aided towards the contest folding up just a delivery into the 16th over.
Smiles and joy on the faces of the owners and the fans. Their campaign is done but the Kings bow out on a high. And they do so having dished out an absolute hammering to the Sunrisers. Punjab Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 wickets with 29 deliveries to spare!
15.1 Umran Malik to Prerak Mankad, THAT'S IT! FOUR! Punjab Kings finish the season on a high, length delivery on the outside off, Mankad lofts that one just over the man at short cover, that runs away and picks out the ropes. Plenty to ponder for Sunrisers with their effort in the field today but what's done is done and they need to move on and come up as a better side next season.
Umran Malik [2-0-20-1] is back into the attack. He will bowl over the wicket.
Oh what a player this man is! Such a pity that we won't get to see him in the playoffs but he's had a campaign he can be mighty pleased with has Liam Livingstone. He's been one of the MVPs beyond doubt. PBKS need 2 runs to win!

14.6 Romario Shepherd to Liam Livingstone, SIX! BRUTAL! Full on the outside off, Livingstone reaches for it and BLUDGEONS that one flat over wide long-off, goes all the way for yet another maximum!
Just 8 runs away now...
That's the 150 up for the Punjab Kings!
14.5 Romario Shepherd to Liam Livingstone, FOUR! Sloppy work continues by Sunrisers, length delivery from around the wicket, on the pads and Livingstone just whacks that one powerfully and Malik with a dive made a meal of that as he picks up another boundary.
Two more such hits and that's the game for the Kings! Around the wicket comes Shepherd.
That's the 1000th six of IPL 2022 and fittingly, it's Liam Livingstone who brings it up with a typical towering blow!
14.4 Romario Shepherd to Liam Livingstone, SIX! HUMONGOUS! It's outta here, OH MY WORD! Length delivery on the outside off, Livingstone reaches for it and MUSCLED it way over deep extra-cover fence and it's disappeared somewhere in the stands for a 1000th six of of the season!
