Minecraft preview 1.21.40.22, which arrived for Bedrock Edition on September 18, 2024, makes a surprisingly hefty amount of changes to the game while also introducing a few new features. However, not everything will be considered impactful, as every player has their own preferences regarding experimental tweaks.

With that in mind, it's worth taking a look at some of the best impactful changes and features in Minecraft preview 1.21.40.22. This way, fans can get an idea of what to expect from the preview before they download it without poring over a substantial amount of patch notes.

5 best tweaks and fixes in Minecraft preview 1.21.40.22

1) Bundles can now be dyed

Bundles made their way to Minecraft Bedrock recently. These inventory management aides got even better thanks to preview 1.21.40.22.

Now, much like leather armor and wool blocks, bundles can be dyed in a litany of different colors. This is not a massive gameplay change, but it's a plus if you love customization in general and want to add some color to your gameplay experience.

2) An updated jigsaw block

Jigsaw blocks may not be the most used blocks in Minecraft, but they certainly have their applications when saving and importing structures. In preview 1.21.40.22, a bug was fixed so that block data will appropriately save for the jigsaw when the Done button is pressed. The block also received a new UI with section priority and placement priority fields.

All in all, this should make jigsaw blocks more useful in the long run while also being easier to navigate, thanks to their new-look UI.

3) A big-time TNT cannon fix

One of the major issues in recent Bedrock Edition updates saw exploding TNT blocks resetting the momentum of other falling primed TNT blocks. This naturally caused issues for TNT cannons as several TNT blocks in flight would lose their momentum and drop to the ground.

This appears to have been caused by a bug that has since been fixed in the 1.21.40.22 preview. Now, at the very least, if you construct a TNT cannon, you should see it operate as intended.

4) A significant respawn fix

A recent bug in the Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.22 hotfix resulted in a pretty significant problem for some players upon death. Specifically, after pressing the respawn button, a loading icon would appear and run indefinitely without actually allowing respawning to occur. Naturally, this was a major point of frustration.

Fortunately, Mojang has addressed this bug (MC-186324) and fixed it, so there shouldn't be any fear of dying and respawning in-game going forward.

5) Identical lodestone compasses now stack

In previous Bedrock previews, lodestone compasses that were connected to the same lodestone wouldn't stack, leading to them flooding your inventory and taking up unnecessary space. It became apparent that this was due to a bug, and Mojang finally fixed the MCPE-109595 bug in preview 1.21.40.22 to ensure that lodestone compasses don't devour your well-needed inventory slots.

Not everybody uses lodestone compasses. However, they have their uses and should stack as intended to ensure they remain useful and aren't considered a nuisance.
